Obviously a substantial amount of storage. Large cache at 256MB with a 7,200 RPM spindle speed which both contribute to impressive performance. Drive runs cool even after hours, upon hours, of consecutively writing terabytes of data to it; drive is now half full. I monitored the drive temperature through my Zyxel NAS326 web portal and the drive never exceeded 43C/109F; Seagate lists max operating temp at 60C. The Zyxel NAS326 does have a small fan in it, but it is absolutely silent while providing only a light breeze to expel hot air from within the NAS enclosure. With how cool and stable the drive performed, it is not surprising it has a MTBF (mean time between failure) rating of 1 million hours along with an endurance rating of 180TB to be written per year. That endurance rating means you could write the drives entire (formatted) capacity to it nearly 14 times a year...and it's anticipated to not fail! Latest firmware installed on the drive. Impressive sequential read/write speeds for a platter drive. ~260 MB/s read/write in my Ryzen 2700X system. This is a fair margin faster than my 6TB WD Black which only manages 175 read & 195 write; in the same system. This also exceeds Seagates claim of 210 MB/s Outstanding performance of the drive seems to be slightly bottlenecked by my entry-level Zyxel NAS326 enclosure. Gigabit Ethernet max theoretical throughput is ~125 MB/s and writing large (1GB-20GB) video files to the drive via the NAS held an extremely steady 80 MB/s. Using Zyxel web portal to download files from the NAS gives a slightly better result in the mid-80 to low 90 MB/s. Writing many small files (photos) to the drive obviously takes a performance hit, but it still did well often fluctuating between 15-30 MB/s. Considering the little $99 NAS is powered by a mere Marvell single-core Armada 38X 88F6810-A0, the performance is pretty decent IMO. Seagate has added rotational vibration sensors in case you will be operating these drives in larger NAS enclosures up to a total of 8. The IronWolf Pro take this quite a bit further with guaranteed performance up to 24 drives in a single system. For Synology NAS users, the Synology brand drives means easier adoption, less headaches and fewer notifications. The extra small pennies/gb price per GB over other enterprise drives with worth it. No need to worry about compatibility with many features of DSM 7.1

-Observed write rates of up to 220 MB/s (sustained for greater than 30 seconds). -Low vibration (less than some SAS drives) -Runs cooler than the other HDDs I have (nothing over 35 C with an ambient temperature of 21 C).

Works as expected in my Synology two drive NAS using RAID 1 (Mirrored) solution. I cannot complain, my previous drive died after 8 yrs so I am going again with WD RED solution.

In my 25+ years of computer using & building, I have always used and depended on the Seagate brand and have trusted it with no worries. These HDDs have lasted for years of continued use for my home PC rigs and rigs that I have built for others. Their HDDs are always easy to install (under Windows) and I have never had a drive develop any bad sectors after installing. Their transfer speeds are always as described and data is always complete, even years after storage.

These WD HDD's are for my security system servers and they usually last five to eight years. I prefer to buy from Newegg because I still remember they were the first company to really step up the game, and send my stuff the very next day as promised. Way before am zon, who is just out to put the other guy out of business. Newegg never has sent me junk parts, and has always been my PC parts shipper choice.

Inexpensive and optimized for the targeted application, surveillance DVR/NVRs (CCTV camera recorders). I have yet to encounter a faulty drive of probably 50 or so purchased so far, not to mention another 50 or so Purple drives that were factory installed in the Hikvision recorders we sell. Western Digital's warranty support is good, though I have yet to send them a Purple (last two drives I had replaced were RE enterprise SATA)

This is a very fast (at 7200RPM), very large drive, and works very well with 24x7 video workloads. It has a rotational vibration sensor (for multi-drive systems), uses less power and generates less heat. It supports up to 64 cameras. I tested it as a desktop drive, and unlike the previous reviewer, I did not hear any clicking noises or any unusual noise for that matter. I used ATTO Disk Benchmark: Average write: 240 MB/s Average read: 253 MB/s I've been using Seagate drives for decades and they are still one of my top brands when choosing hard drives.
