First impressions (before powering up and setting up): I like the overall construction of this switch. All metal... feels sturdy (not like it will be used in a physical sense), but it feels nice to get an all metal case. Powering up and setting up: Plug and play... it’s an unmanaged switch, so nothing at all to tinker with. Plug everything in and let it rip! Use: I have the switch in the following configuration to expand the ethernet ports of my wireless router: INTERNET --> CABLE MODEM --> WIRELESS ROUTER --> 8 PORT SWITCH The auto-MDI/MDIX is a plus... don’t need a crossover cable between my wireless router and the switch. Everything worked as expected... no problems whatsoever. Features “green ethernet technology” that saves power when a device is powered off... seems like a good thing to have.

Metal housing, wall mountable, and jumbo frame support. Having metal mousing helps to dissipate heat a little and looks more professional network equipment. This does not really make any difference in performance of unit though. Having ports and LEDs in front also make it look more professional equipment and if used in business or enterprise network, helps with diagnostics because you don't have to reach ports behind and check LEDs. There are very limited companies that makes metal housing and front port/LED switches for low end market. (Netgear is pretty much only one left now) So, it is good to have another company. Performance wise, it is just regular average gigabit switch. Internally, it is not really any different from any other switches out there. Jumbo frame support allows after transfer of big files. However, it causes compatibility issues in some cases. It has fairly big heat sink over switch chip and keeps chip cool. File transfer speed was no better or worse compared to other gigabit switches I have.

These are not managed switches! if you just need to expand your network and maintain 1gb data rates, you can't go wrong with these. 8 1gb ports for less than 50 bucks.. Whiskey Tango Foxtrot are you waiting for!

Don't cloud register and you can manage it just fine via an admittedly nice web interface. The switch takes a long time to boot, likely vestiges of the cloud integration, but it is quad SFP+/10GB ports and 48 gigabit... and its silent. Does LACP trunking, multiple vlan tagging, IGMPv3 snooping, lldp (never wonder where your AP is connected to again).

Connection speed is a lot faster for gaming now.

Having owned 2 of these tp-link budget switches, I can say they just work. No headache, no hassle. They work well on long ( 100+ feet ) cables and with jumbo packets, unlike a cheap white netgear switch i got stuck with that is now in the trash.
