Looks Great!
Pros: Gives a system a whole new look. It gurgled a little on start but from then on was silent. I found it easy to install but even with the instructions right in front of me I neglected to put on the bottom lock ring. Even though I didn't use the ring it still was firmly in place and I'm not about to move it with the low temps I'm getting on the processor.
Cons: None so far!
Overall Review: Make sure you run this product on FULL fan mode or the LED rings act like old neon signs, winking on & off!
Gigabyte quality in question
Pros: Nice looking board, easy overclocking features... loved the illuminated, isolated sound circuit.. but that's where the fun stopped
Cons: After a night of gaming I turned the system off as I normally do... two days later I attempted to turn the system on... no power, only a blinking light on the onboard power button. I did multiple changes, PS, RAM, Video, unplugged all devices, reconnected and nothing worked. Frustrated I removed the MB, and replaced with my previous MB and everything booted up fine... the Gigabyte MB has failed. I spent an hour waiting on hold and never got to talk with a human, so I sent a tech request into their online tech help... I didn't hear anything for 4 days, and when I did it was like the person responding never even looked at the original tech request where I had listed all my troubleshooting steps. I've purchased another MB from ASRock which is the currently installed board and most likely won't purchase another Gigabyte product if this is the kind of support they give on their products. I'm going to attempt to see if NewEgg will intervene since this board is slightly older than a month... I just didn't feel like waiting for Gigabyte to decide what & when the felt like supporting their product.
Update from previous review in August
Pros: This is an update review on this little guy... I previously only gave it 2 Eggs due to it's inability to successfully get Ubuntu Live running on it. I finally got Live running on it sans the wireless card since the driver wouldn't install properly... Never could get ANY video sources, DVD nor Online to work but after configuring another system with the same version of Ubuntu and experiencing the same issues I decided that the Liva box wasn't the problem, but either Ubuntu's or my lack of experience with Linux. I acquired a copy of Win8.1 and now the little black box is what it should be. It plays anything my wife throws at it and it's quite adept at 1080p video without any hiccups nor blurring.
Cons: It could use more memory, but I can see they're addressing that with another unit. The only thing I could have asked for more of would have been more USB ports, or the ability to add more memory after the fact.
Overall Review: Hats off to the ECS tech support who I dinged in my previous review... the contacted me before the review was published and I was unable to retract the statement. With some of their suggestions I tried several things before finally giving up on Ubuntu and relenting to Microsoft. All is well now.
Works as advertised
Pros: Very easy to program macros and key-binds with options too numerous to list.
Cons: Still unable to essentially "move" a key from the main keyboard to the macro area and allow it to act the same. Example with the WASD keys I prefer them on the very edge of the keyboard... hence the macro key area, but when I move them there pressing more than one of those keys causes the other to stop functioning. It makes playing World of Tanks unplayable since you are constantly pressing W, and use A & D to maneuver since pressing either A or D while W is pressed stops all forward movement. I've tried numerous ways to set the key-binds up, but still no joy! I'll figure it out someday!
I've come to the Dark Side!
Pros: I guess coming to the Dark Side would be debated by the Nvidia users, but coming from a 15 year Radeon user it's almost unheard of! I replaced Crossfired 6870's with this single card and I can honestly say... WoW! The card is silent, and powerful as I've run the settings on all games that I currently play to their highest settings without a single glitch. Where I was having constant crashes, and graphic issues with the previous pair which most of the time was only one card because that was the only way I could stabilize the system long enough to play/do anything... this is an absolute dream. Before someone says "he obviously doesn't know pc parts" I'll say the pair of cards were reduced to single cards & swapped, driver versions were changed, drivers were swept, and OS's were reloaded... no changes. This single card absolutely changed my entire thought process about Nvidia... it worked out of the box with the latest drivers from the website (Sorry Gigabyte... I never use boxed
Cons: Absolutely none!
Overall Review: I'll continue here! drivers) I did download the card utility from Gigabyte, and found it to be simple and effective. Starting that utility is the ONLY time other than boot that I've heard the fans on the card spin up... They slowly spin back down to default after about 30sec or so. I have a Corsair 600T so there is plenty of room for air circulation so I feel is so inclined I could "crank this puppy up!" without even worrying about thermal problems. Long story short... pick one of these up when they're back in stock... you won't be sorry. I'm currently working on acquiring a second one!
Oh Yeah!
Pros: All I can say is "What a Case!" In the many years of building PC's I can say without a doubt that this case was the easiest I've ever had to maneuver around in. Cables are neat & clean with the grommeted holes that lead under the motherboard. This thing is BIG! While I don't have the biggest video card there is (HD6870) it does clock in @ a healthy 10.5"... there is "still" at least a good 4" of clearance before you get anywhere near the bottom drive cage. Planning on getting back to my Crossfire when my cash reserves regenerate which will be a breeze in this case. The cooling in this case is amazing... I run a Corsair H70 liquid unit with a Kingston HyperX Ram fan in conjunction with the (2) 200mm mains for system case temps that rarely exceed 45 Celsius during an extended play period of an new (not to be named here) MMO.
Cons: The only complaints I have with this monster is since it is so big... I needed to purchase an extension for the 8pin processor power cable to be able to route behind the motherboard since it just wasn't going to look right with all the cables so neat, with that one just stretched across the MoBo. Ding 2, would be the spaghetti mess of fan controller wires, and no instructions on what to do with them... I eventually figured them out (I think). Ding 3, the USB3 front panel cable is just barely long enough to make it to the back of my MoBo... an inch more would have been nice.
Overall Review: I've said it before, and I'll say it again... this is a BIG case, and if you tight for space this would be a BIG mistake! The minor complaints are just that... minor! The fit & finish of this case has put all of my previous cases to shame so if you are looking for something big, is highly configurable, and looks like you spent many long hours routing cables (when you really didn't) for than neat clean look... then this is the case for you!
