So, I’m heavily considering migrating to a Linux OS. Mainly with the way things have been going in the digital space, I’m opting for some more autonomy. I still plan on gaming quite a bit including some media editing (video and audio). Any advice and a step in the right direction will be helpful.
Are you building a new pc for Linux or is that your current build? And duelbooting with windows is a option, just make sure to pick a distribution that allows you to do it with windows without any problems. But that parts list looks good. For ether a second pc for Linux or your main pc to duelboot with.
It’s already built. Had to do a reset recently to to acquiring the motherboard over the holiday, but the heavy lifting with backing up files is already done so starting over won’t be a chore for me.
Hello! I wanted to help you so I copied your question and asked around another community. This is their copy pasted response. I just bolded the 2 answers I thought you would find important.
"you have to be somewhat well versed in computers and have to be willing to learn another software and how to troubleshoot it. there are many distros that make switching from windows for gaming and general use very doable but finding the right one may require some trial and error. bazzite is a popular option that is designed to work out of the box and is relatively straight forward to use. But for users that are a little more advanced and want more fine grain control the easy of use can make it frustrating to tune or install specific tools which is where many have been choosing to go with a distro like cachyos
I still wouldn’t use daily if you rely on something like adobe software but there are other alternatives to editing software, like davinci for video editing."

So I spent the last couple of weeks trying out different Linux distributions. CachyOS was definitely the one I would stick with, but I have decided to go with the Debloated Windows 11 route. The reason is I have several programs that I’ve invested in that just aren’t compatible with Linux right now. Hopefully in the foreseeable future, there will be more seamless app compatibility with Linux. Considering the research I’ve done, Linux has come a long way.
