Need Suggestions on Choosing the Best Graphics Cards for a Custom PC Build

Hey everyone, I’m planning to build my own PC mainly for gaming and video editing, but I’m a bit confused about which are the top graphics cards right now. I want something that balances performance and cost well. Can anyone share their experiences or recommendations on which GPU works best for demanding tasks?

Hello Roman & Welcome! Currently it’s RTX 5090 but it’s not what most call a budget friendly card costing around $2800-$3000! I’d look into the 9070 XT 16GB or the RTX 5070 TI 16GB in the $649-$849 range

can you elaborate a little more on what the rest of the build will be? CPU, memory, etc. please include a planned budget too. also wondering how much actual video editing are you gonna be doing verse gaming? what video editing software you use makes a difference also.

so I don’t know Orange Hardware is, but those prices are awful. unless that’s in Canadian dollars.

I personally think the 9070 xt or the 5070 ti are the best price point. Mainly the 9070xt.

Edit: Like other people are saying, it would be nice to know your budget.

As Viraco has requested, I would like to know the rest of the build.

Typically, when you render videos, you have an option of CPU or GPU encoding, and it can make slight difference, as well as how long it takes.

Personally, I always chose Nvidia cards, and its just because they have had a longer time with perfecting their products and I think they have a better user interface. I also love Nvidia " Shadowplay " recording software.

If you can not afford a GPU of a high end, like the 5090 suggested, we can go a different route. get a lower end GPU but get an external capture card, from El Gato or AVer Media and they range from $80-400 and allow pass through option from both PC and or console as well. You might have to use different software from them or if OBS/SLOBS/Xsplit work, go for it. These capture cards can be both PCI-e cards or just normal display cable pass throughs.

Hopefully this information helps.

Exactly, normally I’m a AMD guy for gaming just because Nvidia’s priced performance is not that good, but for editing they are way better. Already already ran a couple builds with a 99003dx and an Nvidia 5080. would be looking in the $2500 range. I think that would be a good compromise over a 5090 set up with the video card is $2500 alone. It would work great for gaming and maybe a mid level video editing PC. It really all depends on how heavy of video editing you’re going to get into. i’m really not do any of that. so it seems like maybe picking someone’s brain like @TheZacAttack might be very educational for you.

It would be nice to know your budget… but without knowing and assuming you have a pretty normal budget you could get a 9070xt or 5070 ti. But if you’re rich and don’t care abt budget then go all out and get a 5080, 4080 super(slightly better than a 5080), or a 5090.

Hey Roman for gaming and video editing you will want a GPU that handles both well without breaking the bank. Last year I bought this:
The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 Ti (16 GB)
is one of the strongest value picks right now, and the AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT (16 GB) offers a compelling alternative. Make sure your CPU, RAM (32 GB+), and NVMe storage aren’t bottlenecks. Most importantly, pick the card based on your budget and how much editing vs gaming you’ll do.
