News: Riot Games revealed Riftbound, which looks suspiciously similar to another release

Riot Forge has officially revealed Riftbound, a tactical trading card game (TCG) that dives deep into the lore and champion dynamics of the League of Legends universe. Riftbound seeks to deliver a competitive, deck-building experience with the flair and personality fans have come to expect from Runeterra.

But it looks like the same genre as another game they released 5 years ago. Legends of Runeterra is Riot Games’ strategic digital card game set in the expansive universe of League of Legends. Launched in 2020, it offers a fresh take on the collectible card game genre by combining accessible mechanics with deep strategic layers and strong narrative integration. Players build decks around iconic champions from regions like Demacia, Ionia, Noxus, and more, each with their own unique mechanics and playstyles.

This makes no sense to me, why make a new card game?

Maybe the mechanics are different.

That’s what a lot of people are asking about as well. But I do think most Riot games are very well balanced and developed.
