PC STARTER BUILD

can somebody built me a around 700$ build that’s upgradeable

I may be inexperienced, but upgradable/future proof is kinda hard as RAM prices are like… your whole budget.

Yeah, as @elaniselan said, ram will eat up a LOT of that budget. The only thing that you can really do is a pc with integrated graphics.

while it is harder, let’s try to build him a budget set that he asked for

I’ll post more but here’s some guidelines

  1. 8gb of ram
  2. 500gb of SSD
  3. Air cooling
  4. MAYBE? Integrated GPU?
  5. Inexpensive AM5 motherboard?

@LIMABEANS what kind of games are you hoping to play?

@GamerBot Recommend Limabeans a budge $700 gaming computer. Give him a couple options to try. Make it upgradeable and use an AM5 socket.

@LIMABEANS — here are a couple of AM5-focused, roughly $700 options you can use as starting points. I kept them upgrade-friendly (B650 where possible) and noted where you can save now and upgrade later. Prices are estimates (USD) and will vary by region/retailer — check for sales and used parts to stretch the budget.

Quick notes before the builds

  • AM5 = DDR5 required. DDR5 is the big cost factor; if you want cheaper RAM now, we can look at used DDR5 kits or a used GPU + non-APU route, but that moves away from AM5.
  • For upgradeability: choose a B650 (or B650M) board if you can — better VRMs and features than A620 and keeps options for future CPU/GPU/PCIe upgrades.
  • Tell me what games you want to play and your region/store preference (Newegg, Amazon, local used market) and I’ll refine the lists.

Option A — Budget AM5 APU build (best for playing esports/less-demanding games right away; no discrete GPU required)
Estimated total: ~$650–750

Parts (examples / targets)

  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 7600G (AM5 APU with integrated RDNA graphics) — ~$180–230
  • Motherboard: B650M micro-ATX (basic chipset, AM5, DDR5) — ~$100–140
  • RAM: 8GB (1x8GB) DDR5 5200–5600 CL40 (cheaper now) — ~$35–50
    • Note: I recommend 2x8GB (16GB) if you can afford it — much better for modern games.
  • Storage: 500GB NVMe SSD — ~$30–40
  • Case + PSU bundle or separate: budget mATX case + 500–650W 80+ Bronze PSU — ~$70–100
  • CPU cooler: budget AM5-compatible air cooler (if the CPU doesn’t include a stock cooler) — ~$20–30

Why this works

  • The APU gives you usable integrated graphics for esports titles, indie games, and older AAA at lower settings without buying a GPU right now.
  • B650 board keeps upgrade path open for a discrete GPU and faster storage later.
  • Buy a matched 2nd RAM stick later to jump to 16GB.

Upgrade path

  • Add a discrete GPU later (used GTX 1650/GTX 1060/RX 570 or a modern budget card depending on deals).
  • Add a second 8GB DDR5 stick for 16GB total.
  • Swap to a better CPU if needed (AM5 covers future Ryzen generations for several years).

Option B — AM5 CPU now, small used GPU now or upgrade GPU later (better CPU headroom for future)
Estimated total: ~700 (new parts) — or ~700 with a cheap used GPU included depending on local prices

Parts

  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 7600 (AM5, no iGPU) — ~$160–220
  • Motherboard: B650M — ~$100–140
  • RAM: 8GB (1x8GB) DDR5 5200–5600 — ~$35–50
  • Storage: 500GB NVMe SSD — ~$30–40
  • GPU: used GTX 1650 / GTX 1060 / RX 570 — $80–130 (used market) OR no GPU now (you’ll need to add later)
  • Case + PSU: budget case + 500–650W 80+ Bronze PSU — ~$70–100
  • Cooler: budget cooler (if CPU doesn’t include one) — ~$20–30

Why this works

  • Slightly better CPU value for when you add a discrete GPU later.
  • Buying a used budget GPU now can get you playable 1080p in many titles and keeps total cost around $700.
  • B650 keeps upgrade options open for a higher-end GPU in the future.

If you want strictly new parts and a better GPU now, a new low-end GPU (RTX 3050 or RX 7600 4GB) will push you well above $700 — so used is the realistic route for gaming at this budget.

What I recommend (if you want my single best pick)

  • Go APU route (Option A) but stretch to 16GB (2x8GB) if possible. That gives the best immediate experience and the smoothest upgrade path: later add a used or budget discrete GPU, and you’ll already have the AM5 platform and decent CPU to pair it with.

Follow-ups

  • What games do you want to play and at what settings/target FPS?
  • New parts only or OK with used parts?
  • Region (so I can suggest exact SKUs and current prices on Newegg)?

If you want, I can post a tighter parts list with exact models (mobo/case/PSU/SSD) and current Newegg links/prices for your region.

Yiu should thank GamerBot too.

If you’re willing to go a bit higher, this is probably perfect. It’s just $150 more than what you’re asking for.

Otherwise for parts, this might be the direction I go…

MB: AM5 SocketLink
CPU: 7600X Link
RAM: 8GB Link
Case: Big Space Case for Upgrades Link
GPU: ASUS 2060
PSU: 650W
SSD: 512GB Link

It’s not perfect, but it’s a start
