how much money does it cost to buy a prebuilt vs building your own parts? heard that it’s cheaper to make your own, but is that right? ![]()
kinda hard to say on the exact cost. i think it’ll depends on budget. u’ll probably save by % of costs, but honestly, nothing beats building your computer part by part.
It is cheaper to build your own. Plus you can go deal hunting.
And you get to learn about computers while building it + a new experience of building. Why would you pay $200 to have someone else take that joy from you?
The only plusses are support and warranty if you buy a pre built… I think.
I just built a computer for $2,000 USD, I checked custom/non custom pre built and they were significantly more by $200 and up.
The only PC company to come close to price is Costco from what I have found so far.
Yes, and I think it’s better to build your own just so you can experience how building a PC works so you know how to get in and out of your PC if you need to fix/upgrade/replace things. There’s also the fact that some prebuilts use janky proprietary parts (cough cough Dell cough cough) that make it harder or impossible to upgrade. As a plus, if you build your own PC, it feel more personal and unique, because it’s YOUR PC with the parts YOU chose.
rip Dell callout, but thanks for the update
Dell will give you a banana shaped SSD ![]()
