It is a traditional Magnetic hard drive.  (HDD) For your own reference, any drive that mentions RPM will be either a traditional drive or at best a hybrid drive, as RPM is a rating of how fast it spins the magnetic platters inside.

Yes. As long as the laptop isn't so old that it still has IDE (PATA) HD interface. Look up your laptop's specifications on the manufacturer's website. As long as it says the hard drive is SATA, this one will work.

I have the same laptop and have installed this hard drive. Depending on the operating system it my not recognize the full 500g. You will want to check this prior to ordering the drive.

Unfortunate no bare hard drive comes with any OS installed on it, you will need to have an install disc for your selected operating system that you would like to use.

kind of.
If this is the only drive in your system then everything is going there because there is no place else for it to go.
The only thing more gbs does for you is allow you to store more stuff on the hard drive unless you put so much on there that it gets almost full then it will slow down because there is so much to sift thru. remember this is storage memory. working memory, better known as RAM, is totally different.

Is this drive compatible with a Panasonic Toughbook CF50?

I bought this drive because my Dell Notebook has an external eSata/USB 2.0 combo port.  I use an external 2.5/3.5" hardriver controller which reads both 3.5 and 2.5 (notebook) drives.
So, to answer your Q, whatever puter your using would have to have a eSata port output.
Keep in mind that THE NEW USB  3 ports work even better and adapters are available for external hard drive enclosures.
As far as replacing your internal Hardrive, look at your system specs. It will show you what Hardrive controller is in your system.
