Is this a brand new drive, or is it reconditioned or removed from another product?

As far as I understand it, the WD drives are NEW devices with a warranty. That Warranty is the clincher when you buy a new drive. I have 24 WD 2 TB drives in 3 different RAID Arrays. About twice  year I lose a drive from a SMART Failure. When it is under warranty, I send it back to WD and a new drive arrives within a week. No problem - because they are under warranty.

Of course, some of my drives are out of warranty, so when one of those fails, I simply jump on Newegg to order a new one when I need it. They ship as fast as WD ships the replacement drive.

is this product compatible with imac8,1 2008?

Pretty sure SATA3 HDD will work with 2008 iMac. I can't paste links into this form, but internet research shows evidence of people successfully doing it.

Yes of course. Has better fault tolerance, perfectly fine as a single stand alone drive.

Will this work with windows XP?

I'm not an expert.  I don't use XP.

Apparently new hard drives use 4k byte physical sectors and older drives used 512 byte sectors.

Newer Windows understand this but XP does not.  I think you can fix this by running the WD Advanced Format utility.

It is neither. It has a SATA connection because it is an INTERNAL hard drive not an External.

how can i download the latest firmware of this?

I never had to upgrade the firmware.
I run Win 8.1 Pro 64 bit
OS recognized HD in the first boot, but I use this drive as data storage not as main OS boot device.

I have WHS V1 and it will not work with Advanced Format Drives. (4K vs 512 byte sectors) Anyone know if this drive is 512?

Recent purchasers - what was the month, year of Manufacture of the drive you received? The 5 year warranty starts from the mfg date, so I am curious on how old these drives are.
