Electronics leads in sales this Black Friday

Thanksgiving traditions may include activities, such as watching the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, throwing the football with cousins, making pumpkin pie and perhaps most importantly – scouring over the papers for the best Black Friday deals.

Millions of Americans partake in the Black Friday madness every year, looking for that newest craze at a bargain. While the trends and the sales differ from year to year, what seems to be a constant is the fact that most people are out to find electronics. The hype and excitement of Black Friday and Cyber Monday are usually centered around finding the best TV, laptop or camera deal – and research indicates that Black Friday 2011 was no different.

According to a survey conducted by BIGresearch for the National Retail Federation, more than 48 percent of the shoppers that participated in Black Friday this year bought an electronic or electronic related item. Furthermore, the average shopper spent $246 on electronics, which is a six percent increase from last year. The electronics industry experienced 50 percent more shoppers than businesses that deal toys.

Some of the most popular electronics sold on Black Friday included digital cameras, TVs, laptops, netbooks, tablet computers, MP3 players and e-readers. However, the most popular electronic items sold were video game consoles, according to the National Retail Federation.
