The leak introduces two new characters, Frost and Sandman.

Gamers are clamoring for any news regarding Modern Warfare 3, and their patience may have finally paid off. Kotaku got their hands on a hefty assortment of leaked details about the next upcoming entry in the Modern Warfare series.

What they’ve found seems to show MW3 will pick up soon after the cliffhanger ending of Modern Warfare 2. As Price and Soap hunt super-terrorist Makarov around the globe, the Russian military invades my hometown of New York.  As is typical in the blockbuster series, you won’t be limited to just one city.  We’ll stop here in case people are worried about spoilers.

But lets talk multiplayer.  Right now, we’re seeing the return of Spec-Ops, the beloved cooperative mode from Modern Warfare 2.  There are reportedly a whopping 20 competitive multiplayer maps so far, too. One of which being named “Brooklyn!” (Please, just let me be excited!)

Infinity Ward’s Community Manager, Robert Bowling has responded to the leak on  Twitter:

IW's response to leaks

When Call of Duty: Modern Warfare hit the market in November 2007, it pushed the first-person shooter genre to another level, with a unique perk system, progressive leveling and character customization options.

With Modern Warfare 2, the game’s developer, Activision, was able to sell 4.7 million copies in the United States and United Kingdom in only 24 hours, generating $310 million and breaking the all-time entertainment launch record at the time, only to be surpassed by Call of Duty Black Ops in November 2010.

Obviously, the entire Call of Duty franchise is available on Newegg.  But before we go, lets remember America’s greatest hero, Private Ramirez, being ordered to stop World War III single-handedly:
