What I Wish I Had in My Dorm

College Students Having Fun

The awesome thing about moving out for college is that you suddenly find that you have a lot more freedom. Depending on your lifestyle, you may often end up in your dorm working on a project or just having an awesome time with friends. At times you’ll go to a study center, library or computer lab to study and then just want to relax when you get back to your dorm. To make the most of it, make sure your space is awesome.

Creating an Awesome Space

You’re going to have people over time to time. Make it a place where you and your friends can unwind and relax. By setting up your room the right way, you are basically inviting people to come over, and they will!

The Comfy Chair

Bean Bag

No dorm is complete without a seat to really sink into. Whether you’re playing Cards Against Humanity with your dorm mates or having people over for a dorm party or study session, bean bag chair wins.

Card Games

This is a great way to unwind with friends and hall mates. Pick the deck that you think would go best to make for a good time.

Posters & Art

You can pretty much put anything you really want up on your walls, unless of course your housing community bans certain things. Make your space your own. Pick out your favorite movies, shows, quotes, or artwork that is going to really make you feel good to be around. The key is to make it fun and enjoyable. You are going to live there, might as well make it your own.

Speakers

Computer speakers really come in handy. Audiophiles out there might hate playing music off of their computer, but in dorm room life that’s the way to go. It’s convenient and gets the job done.

Mini Fridge

Mini Refrigerator

This really helps, especially if you don’t have a campus meal plan. Most universities will obligate you to have a meal plan the first year, but once that’s over I suggest getting one of these puppies.

TV

LED TV

Most of the time your hall is going to have a community area with a TV. The decision to get a TV really depends on what you want to do with your room. If you do go with a TV get something that fits your space.

Last but NOT Least

Lights

So you’ve set everything up in your dorm, not so fast. You’re forgetting a vital detail, lights. For most of my college experience it never really occurred to me to deck out my room with any extra lights, but when I did, it really made the place an awesome spot. Regular Christmas lights will do. It’s really up to your taste.

Ultimately your dorm is going to be your personal space. Set it up in such a way to make you feel good about where you live and what you’re studying in college. Let us know of what you really would like in your dorm or wished you had thought of while in College.
