Windows 10

Finally, Windows 10 is here. Will it save us from the grips of Windows 8.1 with Bing? The system looks great, and the odds of it turning out better than its predecessor are pretty high. For the past few months we have put together an overview the many features offered in Windows 10. Here is what to expect:

Enhanced User Interface and Cross Device Compatibility

Windows 10

The new operating system will include an expanded start menu similar to the classic Windows 7 feel while adding in multiple desktops for power-users. Windows 10 will be cross-device compatible, so it will stream data from one Windows item to another. We’re interested to see the types of apps that will come out using the compatibility between phones, PCs and the Xbox. Check out our coverage of some of the new features here on the Newegg blog.

Xbox Gaming and Streaming

Xbox

Windows 10 will be able to stream games and media directly through the Xbox. This means people can access games from their Xbox remotely through their laptop, PC, tablet and possibly even their Windows phones. You no longer will have to walk over to the game or TV room.

Virtual Reality Gaming with Oculus

Oculus Rift

In addition to Xbox compatibility, Windows 10 will be the native environment for the Oculus Rift virtual reality headsets. Oculus’ partnership with Microsoft will undoubtedly add a new dimension to gaming on the PC and Xbox. While VR games will not initially be available on the Xbox, it may still offer a more immersive user experience. For more on this gaming experience check out our post, Gaming in Virtual Reality: Oculus Rift and Windows 10 Join Forces.

The HoloLens Interface

While Oculus has been developing its virtual reality technology, Microsoft has been hard at work bringing a new holographic experience of its own to life. With the HoloLens, users will be able to see an overlay of virtual objects and scenery on top of their surroundings and interact with them. We can be sure to see this becoming a component of gaming and virtual product design. The future is brimming with opportunities for very cool software and app development. Here are 5 great things you can do with a HoloLens.
