While the mic preamp delivers up to 75dB of clean gain, you should adjust the level based on your setup, mic distance, and recording environment. The goal is to boost your signal while keeping background noise low. Monitor the input in your DAW or watch the Clip light on your audio interface, and keep the level below -12dB for the best sound quality without distortion or clipping.
This mic preamp also accepts guitar or other instrument signals through its 1/4" input and amplies them to line level, allowing it to work as an adjustable-gain DI box.
Note: when connecting to a guitar amp, be sure to use the Line input only. If the amp has no line input, it cannot be used, otherwise unwanted noise will occur. For connection, use an XLR to TS or TRS to TS cable from the preamp to your amp.
If your recording space isnt acoustically treated and youre worried about background noise being amplied, pair the RO-03 mic preamp with our RO-05 Analog Noise Eliminator to achieve a clean, clear sound.
