How much space does windows actually give you on this drive after its formatted? I read on the web somewhere that its 9.09 TB.

The reason it displays as this amount is because Windows is counting terabytes the way computers are supposed to, where 1 TB = 1024^4 bytes, whereas hard drive manufacturers specifically define in their documentation 1 TB=1000^4 bytes. The difference will only increase as the measurements increase. They blame the difference on formatting overhead, but that's the reality.

Is there any reason why this drive cannot be used as an internal storage drive on a PC?

There is no reason you can't use this drive for internal storage. I use it for holding my video and audio collection. My 10TB is in the case with the rest of my hard drives that I use for the operating system and software prigrams. The drive is quiet and quick to respond when called upon.

How is the noise compared to other hard disks? What are idle and heavy use temperatures?

Hay. The noise is because of the way it is designed. It is/was intended to be durable not quite. The temp issue are relevant to your environmental (room) temp(s). If the drive is doing a lot of write(s) then the temp seems to be higher than with a lot of read(s). The real trick is to put it in a place with a lot of air flow. That is a little bit hard to do with mine since I am using removable drive(s) bay(s)/rack(s). I would also suggest that you get good air flow on the bottom for the sake of the pc board and on top for the sake of the internal temp. If you look at the smart feature(s) and data you will see that there is also a internal temp sensor. As well a other climate sensor(s).  Remember heat kill(s)!
