Would this work for a desktop that supports 3.5 drive bay to save personal files as a basic computer use?

I use it as an additional drive for saving my data files; that is, it's not the boot drive. For me, it works great, and I'd imagine that if you're using it in a similar configuration (i.e., not the main boot drive), you'll be fine. Standard size and connectors make installation and swapping simple. Note that you might be okay using it as the boot drive, but that's not what I did, so I can't address that.

I know this drive is designed for surveillance applications, but would it also be a good choice for using as media drive on a desktop environment?

Yes, it would work perfect for that purpose.

What is the rotational speed? This is the ONLY I truly hate about Seagate. They don't print the full specs.

The 6TB, 8TB, and 10TB Skyhawks are all 7,200 RPM. The 1TB through 4TB models are 5,900 RPM.
