Question 1

How does this power? Can it be used with xbox one? and dont you need a external power sourced hard drive with xbox being it wont pull enough power from the xbox? I bring this up cuz i dont see any power cord plugged into it or does it say it comes with a power plug. PLease help and thank you in advanced.. Brent

Requires included external power adapter to use as external drive. There are no fans inside the case so 24/7 continual operation is not advised for any external mechanical drive without a fan. If you just want to store backups for Xbox they�ll work fine, but if you want to install and play games from the external drive you�ll burn up the drive in short time in a fan-less case.

These are EXOS enterprise class drives inside. Cheaper to buy in an external case compared to the bare retail OEM drive. I�ve bought four and pulled them out of their cases and installed them as internal drives in my Plex media server box.

Question 2

How loud is it? Compared to 2,5' HDD (almost silent).

To me, it’s not loud but I bought three, took them out of the cases, and put them in an Orico 5-bay enclosure (from Newegg) along with two Barracuda 8TB drives. I can barely hear all five drives running at once but I have a Windows box and a Linux box that both run 24/7 so it’s hard for me to judge a single drive noise. Altogether, I have 15 mechanical HDD (> 100 TB) running constantly so you may want to ask someone else.

All three external drives have been EXOS enterprise helium drives inside. (NM) So, as far as quality goes you can’t find a better deal. In fact, I’m considering buying two more to replace the Barracuda drives since the EXOS drives have 5 year warranties running 24/7 and the Barracuda are just 2 year consumer warranties. But remember that Seagate warranties go by how many hours they’ve been powered on and not by the calendar.

Sorry for such a long reply that doesn’t really answer your question but I figured I’d just make this a review which might help others.

Can I remove the HD from the case?

Yes, I've opened several with a butter knife and my fingernails but the first was challenging until I figured out to start at the weakest corner near the ports. Even if you break a couple tabs in the process, it will still go back together and not cause problems.

Can this be connected to a WiFi router (netgear) and used as network storage?

Accepted Answer

Yes, if your router has a USB port for this purpose. Usually, a USB port on a router can accommodate either a printer or a storage drive. However, I would only recommend attaching an external drive if the port on the router is USB3. A USB2 port would be glacially slow.

Can this be connected to a WiFi router and used as network storage?

Not with a network cable no, this isn't a NAS device.  But some routers provide USB plugs for external storage to be plugged into and accessed by any system wifi. But that's a router question, you need to go look up your routers capabilities.

Question 6

What are the read/write transfer rates?  Does this unit contain spinning HD disks, if so, at what speed do they spin? Fast USB 3.0 has no meaning.

Is this a good pick for a xbox one as a external hard drive? It doset specify that its for gaming. Are there better options that are in the 16TB varity? Thanks again for your help... Brent

Not a gamer. Just storage. But strangely, the hard drive is almost always in action, like it�s searching for something. Even when I�m doing nothing with the contents of the drive. Strange.
