Is this an OEM dive?

Hi shopper,

It's OEM in WD's external velociraptor 2TB enclosure. Other than that it's an enterprise class drive so you may be able to spec it on certain custom built servers. Uses a small laptop sized HD permanently mounted in a massive black finned heat sink. Win NOT fit any laptop but fits all desktops using full size drives w/SATA connections. This is an expensive drive built for speed, are you sure you need it? It has a tiny capacity compared to the giant 7200 RPM drives available out there....................Raymond

Is this drive backwards compatible with a 3gb interface?

Yes they are backwards compatible.  But might want to check into ssd's.  Warranty is 2 years less but the speed is a big boost.  I have had to replace two velociraptor drives but they lasted 4.5 years so I got two more from them no problem and those have lasted 5 years plus so it really depends on what things you are doing with it ie gaming or just everyday computing, hope this helps

Is this 10 k speed some say it is still a 7200 drive which is is it?

10k  Noticeable speed improvement over the WD Black drives I have, that are 7.2K.  I've used these velociraptor drives for a number of years now and they are awesome.

However, it still won't beat a SSD.

Question 4

Will this drive plug into a hot swappable server? The back looks different so can't tell from picture.

The drive below fits, so if they are the same connectors, then it will work. Do you know for sure? Thanks.

It has all the same connectors as a normal 3.5" drive. But because of its high RPM they use a 2.5" drive in a heatsinking 3.5" mounting.

What is the power consumption of the product?

I do not know as it is not a factor or concern for me. i just wanted the fastest hard drives available.

Yes it will work. I just checked to make sure it fits well in the hard drive bay as well. It fit like a glove.
