This drive is only designed for us in high volume low accuracy uses such as recording digital video. It is designed with no error correction or other disk level data protections to avoid the overhead. They also have only the minimum physical noise/vibration controls so no. The purple drives are not for 90% of enterprise uses.

I know this was build for surveillance storage but is it good for normal media storage like video, movies, pictures?

This drive should work fine for everyday use. However it may be more expensive than a wd green drive that will do the exact same thing. This drive shines with constant read/write access and low heat for devices that are on 24 hours a day 7 days a week.
IMO i would look more at wd green unless this drive is cheaper. The price difference will just be a 2 year warranty of wd green to this one which has 3 years.

What is the drive speed (RPM)?

WD doesn't specify the speed, but is supposed to spin according to the needs of the application. If you ask around most likely the answer is going to be between 5400 and 5900 rpm.
I installed mine to use it for storage of movies and TV shows that I record in Windows Media Center I am extremely happy with it, so far I have it working 24/7 for a year with no issues at all.

Depending on the application.  If you are using it in a PC as a DVR or NVR recorder.  Yes!  If you are using it in a standalone DVR or NVR, you need to check with manufacturer.  You may need a firmware upgrade for full compatibility.

Will this work in a pelco digital sentry dssrv2 DVR system to add storage capacity??

My best guess would be for you to check with the manufacturer to see if it supports a 4 TB drive.  The internal drive you have right now is probably a sata.  So it's more a question of the size of the drive your system supports.

Are these designed to be put in RAID? For surveillance storage should I use an array of Red or Purple drives?

For a security DVR, you want the Purple drives.  I have 8 of these in my DVR - 32TB storage.

I don't know about that device but I am using it with a Wirepath NVR. It is recording 24x7 since June. No issues.
