Can we use it as a regular HDD also for everyday use??

Was not able to use the Windows 7 setup/install to create a single GPT partition.  MS website only discussed Win 8/8.1 with GPT.  Turned it into a secondary HD and disk management allowed me to use GPT and turn it into a Basic disk.  Have not used this HD long enough to give performance / reliability info.

is it wireless?

Yes, with the correct equipment and configuration this drive works wonders when operating completely wirelessly.  Of course, data throughput may be impacted, but depending on what you do, it may or may not suit your needs.

For example, I'm using it wirelessly as a paper weight; works FANTASTIC and it looks GREAT!

Question 3

I have a 20 drive capacity media server and it seems that WD has deserted us completely now that WD AV-GP drives are no longer being produced and the purple is not listed for media purposes, can anyone recommend a replacement. The reds don't do it since the video seems to not be as smooth streaming as the av drives are, also they have pretty much left a huge hole in the dvr market?

The Western Digital Purple Series is an improvement from the AV GP Series with capabilities improved from recording 12 video streams up to 32.

This drive is now used by many CCTV DVR providers and has performed well in our custom built systems. We currently send 16 1.3 megapixel streams at 30 frames per second with out problems.

The Purple drives are designed specifically for video surveillance.

I suggest you give it a try.

Are these hard drives preformatted?

No, these drives are NOT preformatted. You will format the drive during the initialization process after installation. These drives are for video surveillance and I do not recommend them for other uses.

I have a Solstice 6TB NVR with '2 defective HD (model WD30EURS) would this be an upgrade or could you recommend another part #?

From what I read on Soltice manual looks like it supports 2 x 3TB drives max.  The main difference looks like the Purple drives are made for HD video and the ones you have were not.  I would check with support but most likely the Purple drives will work just fine.

will this hard drive work with lorex lhv1000?

First and foremost, its always a good idea to check with the manufacturer before upgrading anything I think. According to the specs of that DVR, its a bit confusing. I saw at the top it indicated it supported 1-2TB hard drive space but then down in the system specs it was 1-4TB. If its the later, then you should be good to go with this HDD. But again, I would check with Lorex first before ordering just to confirm. Hope that helps.

I want to use this drive to store huge collection of pictures, music files, and video files.  It will therefore be on constantly.  I know it was made for TIVO and survelliance, but is this a good user for this drive?

These are consumer grade drives for use in home network attached storage devices, and are designed to be on for extended periods. I recently bought 3 of them for use in my media server doing exactly what you described. Your use case should be fine.

Will this work as a replacement drive in a Tivo Roamio?

Yes. This is what I use the 3TB drive for. The Tivo Romio will format the drive when it boots with the new drive for the first time. I have read where 3TB is the largest drive that the Roamio will format. I selected the WD Purple because it is intended for multiple video streams.
