Is this drive a 5400rpm or 7200rpm? cant seem to find the answer

It does not say on the drive itself but if you download the spec sheet from WD it lists the entire PURPLE line at 5400 rpm.  I'd assume this is to minimize wear on a drive that is intended to run non stop.

Question 2

Is it okay to use this as a normal desktop hard drive? I read about the Intellipark feature that parks the head after 8 seconds of not reading/writing, which will drastically shorten the lifespan of the hard drive unless you are using it to constantly write/read as you would with surveillance video. Also, it seems WD only provides the software tool to change this behavior for their Red drives, and it not available for the Purple drives.

Using the 6tb Purple as a "Plex DLNA Server" storage drive and it works as expected. No issues at all. No dropped frames during playback of even 4k files, no missing drive on network, no "parking" as mentioned by others...not even so much as a hickup. Solid performer for video applications as well. No issues with Adobe Premier either. So far so good.

Was this thing shipped in a bag, bouncing around in a box or was it packaged as a hard drive should be packaged?

What is the average life expectancy of the Western Digital Purple Surveillance Hard Drive? How many years of 24/7 usage should one expect before needing to replace the HD as a preventive maintenance operation and or total HD Failure?
