Sure, it is backwards compatible.  Just won’t be quite as fast as the drive is capable of.

Why is this better than any other samsung or other 1T SSD?

Back when prices for SSDs were higher, these were supposed to make larger drives more affordable.  The lifespan on this is QLV model is 360TBW.  the TLC 860EVO is 600TBW and it has two years longer warranty.  This drive would have to sell for 1/2 to 2/3 the price of the EVO to make sense.  they are the same price because Samsung is trying to recoop their R&D money for QLC by selling them to unwitting buyers.

This is a popular question.
Answer: the Samsung SSD uses the same cables as a standard sata drive, aka the same one connected to your current drive. This is true for both power and data. 
This drive does need a 2.5 inch mounting bracket witch not all cases have. Newegg sells a 3.5 to 2.5 converter, or you can save 5 bucks and use the handyman's secret weapon: Duck Tape.

There are probably "better" options, but this will still work. This drive would be hands down better than a spinning disk at the same price point. If the VMs are I/O intensive, think about something like the Samsung Pro series.

i'm using a rosewill usb2 dock and this Team Group GX2 2.5" 128GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) T253X2128G0C101 that i bought 2 weeks ago is not recognised by my older win vista computer when all my other 500gb to 2tb hdds are recognised by my computer?  i guess i have to call Team Group, and i will today.

Nothing wrong with the usb2 dock or the sada ssd.  You have to go into Administrative tools, to get it recognized.  Plenty of videos on Youtube on how to do it.

No. If you are needing to clone Ubuntu, using the "DD" (Dataset Definition) would be your best bet (if using a Ubuntu OS).
Another option is using a off line duplicator unit (Inateck USB 3.0 to SATA I/II/III Dual Bay External Hard Drive Docking Station for 2.5 or 3.5 HDD, SSD, Up to Support 10TB, with Hard Drive Duplicator/Offline Cloner Function, FD2005). I have had excellent success using this unit (in stand-alone mode) for duplicating various types of OS. Note that this unit is ONLY for SATA drives.
