Will it fit older laptops?

It depends on whether or not the laptop has an M.2 socket.  If it does, then it additionally depends on whether or not the M.2 socket supports just SSD devices or also NVMe devices.  This is an NVMe device and specifically requires support for NVMe in the BIOS (if you want to boot from the device anyway).  If the laptop is older, then my guess is *if* it has an M.2 socket, it's SSD only.  But that's just a guess.

Question 2

Will this fit in the DIYPC DIY-BG01 Black USB 3.0 ATX Mid Tower Gaming Computer Case with Pre-installed 3 x 120mm Fans?

With not knowing the dimensions of the case and how all the components fit together when fully assembled, I can assume (about 99% certainty) that it will fit. As long as the board aligns the cards to stay installed flat and on top of the motherboard, it will fit. These cards are very small and lay flat in most installations.

Question 3

Please point me towards the adapter PciE Gen 3 to Gen 2?

There is no such thing.  This will work in any M.2 Gen2 socket as long as the motherboard  supports NVMe operation over the M.2 socket.  If the socket only supports SATA emulation mode, then the Gen2/Gen3 issue doesn't matter as it won't work at all.

Question 4

Are the evo 960 and evo 970 interchangeable? I have gigabyte Z170-hd3p motherboard which has M.2 slot, but I was wondering if the newer 970 gen 1.3 will work in this board. I am sure the 960 would work.

I installed this on an ASRock z270 tiachi and aside from some research that i had to look into pertaining some of the drivers and the correct order to install them (oh, and don't forget the ridiculously vague settings in the bios that would make everything tank if you made one mistake) it wasn't too too bad. If you have patience and a willingness to stick with the process, its fine.I will say that the difference between the 960 and the 970 isn't all that much to write home about.

You won't get much more performance out of this since you already have a Hybrid HDD. Just open it up and see if you have a slot for it first though.

I have a gigabyte GA-870A-UD3  MB, is this  compatable?

Your board doesn't support PCIe M.2 drives. I'd recommend an SSD over this as it will be the same speed due to the sata port limitation and much cheaper per GB.

Does samsung have something like the Intel SSD toolbox that will optimize a Samsung NVME drive and/or show the lifespan left?  What is it called?
