This hard drive will connect to the sata connector on any common laptop. The hard drive will be backward compatible to any older hardware for sata connections. This hard drive does not have the the connection for eSata (an external connection for sata devices), if this is what you want to know. Sata replaces the older IDE devices that had 34 or 40 pins.  Sata performs at the higher serial bus speeds.
