Is this a new drive, never used?

HAVE DELL STUDIOXPS435T/9000 COMPUTER WITH SMART DRIVE MODEL ST31500341AS SAYING IT MIGHT FAIL. DO YOU HAVE AN EXACT REPLACEMENT FOR THAT DRIVE. IT IS USED AS MY BACKUP D:\ DRIVE. DO I HAVE TO DO ANYTHING TO IT IF I BUY NEW ONE AND INSTALL IT. HAVE BOUGHT TWO SEAGATE EXTERNAL DRIVES FROM SEAGATE AND HAVE BEEN HAPPY WITH THEIR PERFORMANCE. WOULD LIKE TO REPLACE THE SMART DRIVE IN MY COMPUTER TOWER WITH A SEAGATE SMART DRIVE IF IT IS COMPATIBLE WITH MY DELL COMPUTER? . THANKS JOHN

Size wise - Good fit. Same 1.5 TB HD size as you have according to Specs you've provided. Do anything? Once installed, go to Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Computer Management, Disk Management and format disk. Voila! Your done! Ready for backups again! BTW: Double check your Bios to make sure SMART is turned on for this HD. Where? I'd have to see it to tell you exactly where to look. Should be in your Manual about your Bios Configuration. Hope this helps!

What is the firmware?
