Would this be suitable for a home desktop with SATA interface ? Why or why not ?

No. A drive with a SAS interface requires a SAS controller, either on your motherboard or as a separate card. Do not be fooled by the the "SAS to SATA" cables available. While those cables do have a valid purpose, they will not magically allow your SATA interface to communicate with a SAS drive. For the average home user, there should be little (if any) difference in performance and reliability compared to a 7200 RPM CMR SATA drive.
