Will this drive work for storage on consoles like ps4 and xbox one?

Yes i use this drive solely for my PS4. I have a Gen 1 that has a tiny onboard HDD and i run ALL my games off this little drive, have it Velcro'd to the top of my PS4. =)

Question 3

What is the sustained data transfer rate?  I.e. how fast can it write to the HDD platters, assuming large file operations and not random I/O.

NOTE:  I *know* that the USB bus can do 5 Gb/s.  That's not the answer to my question.

I measured the following bandwidths (for Sequential Read/Verify):
[a] Outside Diameter (empty): 142 MB/sec
[b] Middle Diameter (half full): 130 MB/sec
[c] (about 3/4 full): 100 MB/sec
[d] Inside Diameter (almost full): 67 MB/sec
As with all hard disk drives, the sequential data rate drops as the disk drive fills (i.e. you store more data on the drive).

HOW DO I FREE UP SPACE ON MY EXTERNAL HARD DRIVE?

Free up space on an external hard drive the same way you would free up space on any other drive. Find files and folders that you no longer need and delete them. On some computers deleted files are moved to the recycle bin, so remember to empty the recycle bin to free up space.

Yes, this device is compatible with Mac.  However, you will need to perform a reformat of the drive before use, or use NTFS software on your Mac.

Yes it does. Partition with fdisk
and mkfs.ext4

Can i use this hard drive with my Ubuntu Linux computer?

I don't see why not, as long as you have a USB 2.0/3.0 port with a working USB driver.  I've never had a hard drive not work on Ubuntu.
