Western Digital RE3 WD7502ABYS 750GB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Just installed Vista last night, with no problems. I am using this as a stand alone hard drive. I purchased a regular WD black 750GB and was so impressed that I decide to get this high-end drive.

Cons: nothing, so far

Overall Review: I'm tired of HD errors and failures. From now on, I am only buying RE hard drives from Western Digital. I was disappointed with a SG 7200.11 HD. RE=Raid Edition, but you can use them as stand alone drives. These drives are tested better.

Pros: Fast drives. I set two of these up in a RAID 1 array on a linux file server. hdparm reported file transfer rate of about 108MB/sec. Not bad! I also tried in a RAID 0 array, and it reported 200MB/sec. Phew....

Cons: None so far.

Pros: If you don't want to lose a drive in your raid array AND want the WD warranty you need to buy RE(version) drives. This drive is quiet and fast! Newegg had this wrapped in 4 (FOUR!!) layers of bubble wrap and then tossed into a box with packing peanuts. Super job!

Pros: Nice capacity and very fast. Also quite and cool.

Cons: Yet to be determined if its pricy or not. I figure it depends on how long it lasts.

Overall Review: I would probably get the 1T version of this drive if I had it to do over again.

Pros: I bought two of these and have them in raid zero configuration. Works & works & works. No problems. I use as a scratch disk for my adobe premiere projects and photoshop outlays. Quiet, fast and easy to install :-)

Overall Review: Replaced fairly new, LOUD Seagate!

Pros: We use WD RE3 750s and 500s in a number of raid systems. Compared to other brands, the WD RE3s have been the most dependable. We do occasionally have a drive go bad, but with over 70 drives installed, that is bound to happen. We run raid 6, which will tolerate two failed drives. Typically if a drive dies it is only one at a time. HOWEVER, we did lose a fan in a computer once that cause over heating and we did lose two drives, so it can happen.

Cons: None.

Overall Review: The RE3s are for heavy duty (think continuous 24x7x365 use) and/or raid use. If your needs don't fit that description, you may be better off with the a WD Caviar or similar.
