For LGA 1151 this is about as good as it gets.

Pros: Excellent virtualization support with both lan chips having their own IOMMU groups (i219 and I210) . 1 ASMedia 3.1, 1 ASMedia 3.0, and the z390 chipset USB 3.1 controller all in different groups aswell. Solving the issue of hot plug USB devices in Unraid VMs

Due to the use of a 48 Lane PLX chip this board supports Quad x8 PCI-E lanes which makes it possible to have a GPU, an LSI Logic controller such as the LSI 9305-16i, 10Gb network card, and a Blackmagic decklink Quad 2 card all running at the same time. From a budget standpoint this really is the best your goona get without going to x299 or threadripper. Keep in mind that even though you have 32 PCIE lanes they have to share the bandwidth of the 16 lanes provided by coffee lake cpus. Running the configuration above I have not noticed bandwidth limitations however i am not maxing out the black magic card. Your results may very.

Cons: Only 1 internal USB 2.0 header, although not really a deal breaker.
IF using any m.2 devices you will loose 2 Sata ports dropping down the 6 usable to 4. Plan your freeNAS/Unraid server accordingly. I am using a LSI 9305-16i logic controller to achieve the storage capacity I needed so this issue does not effect me.
The U.2 ports do NOT support SFF-8643 (aka U.2 or mini SAS) to 4x SATA connector cables
ALSO if using M.2 media you will loose a U.2 port or if using both M.2 slots you will loose both U.2 ports, but again this is simply due to bandwidth limitations of LGA 1151 and its native 16 PCI-E lanes.
no ECC support but honestly if you need ECC your looking way in the wrong direction

Other Thoughts: Full Specs of my system:
i9-9900K 4.9ghz overclock stable at 1.18v (yea i didn't win the silicon lottery) reaching 80C under synthetic load
Asus WS Z390 Pro (VRM's are far superior on this board compared to the supermicro board which also has a PLX chip)
Noctua D15S cooler
Corsair LPX 4x 16GB 3200mhz
EVGA GTX 1080 TI
LSI 9305-16i attached to 12 IronWolf Pro 8tb drives
Onboard SATA attached to 4, Samsung 860 1tb SSDs
Blackmagic Decklink Quad 2 running 4 1080P60 streams.
Asus XG-C100C 10Gb NIC

All configured through Unraid 6 without so much as a single hiccup.

IMPORTANT I cannot confirm 9700k support since i have not tested it, and it is not listed as a compatible cpu.
8700k and 9900k both supported with BIOS 0401 although it originally shipped with 0201 and required a bios flash before the 9900k was supported

Hopefully this review helps save some of you lots of time researching and testing everything yourself.

This is my first board with ASUS. Impressive. Most important inverstments to everyone. Thanks Newegg.com.

Pros: I tried as much to work the aesthetics where people be interested in having 1 desktop for each household in the world. There are PC servers that would make a difference in the world but cost way too, too much. I'm glad Nvidia has such technology. Everything doesn't work, this well.

Cons: The bios is different. Is better to get the drivers online. The software got botched up when installing, I had to reinstall all the software because didn't realize to check with the website first. But is worth as much as cars that most people not go to that route. Virtual PC of Nvidia's Tesla would be worthwhile and should be.

Other Thoughts: The importance of computers is phenomenal that I invested on this motherboard to teach 1 person, that one person that is able to communicate and teach, can teach usually many, many others. I think that's worthwhile.

The other important ideal to convey, if I was a country, sports industry isn't as expensive as wars, just build stuff on CAD all day and garden as exercise. Can't go wrong but boring maybe.

Motherboard tends to heat. This board has heatsinks on the motherboard that's cool. Can fit 4 cards but there are possible ways not to interfere with the PCI express slots.

Fully Functional, but not a 400$ worth of board.

Pros: -Good Audio on board
-Decent overclock ability for 9900k

Cons: -Only 1 USB and 1 USB3 channels, needing to have to buy a USB2 expansion. Pretty disappointing for a 400$ to have only one of each. but this is the world we live in.
-This is probably where i wanted to give it one egg. The Thermal plates on the m.2 connectors are secured by 2 small screws each. While one side came out fine, the other , no matter how careful and what screw driver just wouldn't budge .
After many hours of careful frustration the screws ended up being stripped . I ended up tearing the screws out risking damage to the board. Thankfully did not do so.

Other Thoughts: -My H100 pro cooler just isnt being recognized, im not sure if this has to do with a motherboard. But i assume is a Corsair issue. But this means i cant see the CPU fan which is a pretty big letdown for such an expensive build. I plan to buy another cooler to see if its any better in future.

Seems like a great MoBo, not as easy to configure as ASUS and you would like, and you are YOUR OWN techical support

Pros: The board was used in a Music Production Studio build and after 3 weeks of heavy use is running fine. Great placement of components, connections, and headers making assembly easy and clean. The overall build fit nicely into both power and heat budgets in a Corsair case and 750 watt PS. Final configuration was i7 9700, 32GB Corsair 3000 DRAM, two Samsung 970 EVO NVMe Series 1TB M.2 PCI-Express 3.0, not Raided, ASUS ThunderboltEX-1 card, Adaptec RAID card, and no video card. OS was W10.

Cons: ASUS technical support sucks. That is as professional as I can put it after my experience. I opened a case with them and the first level support gave incorrect information, and the escalation team promised a 48 hour response which never happened. Even after a follow up call on which they again committed to call me back, nada. No exaggeration, ASUS, here is the case number N181192999.

I was stuck and needed help, ASUS let me down. Many hours of research in BLOGs and other communities lend me the answer I needed, however delayed my delivery commitment to my client. Sorry ASUS, but I had to make the business decision to use other manufactures mother boards in my follow up orders. I can't risk my reputation on your poor customer support.

Other Thoughts: Other thoughts:
1) I could NOT in good faith recommend any ASUS product to anyone, especially my clients. They may be excellent products, however there are too many variables in modern day electronics to risk everything will go right. And if you have an issue, even a minor, you are on your own, good luck.

2) I will NOT purchase ASUS again, not even their top rated WiFi boxes. Too bad because the trade pubs are placing them on top, however without any customer support, a top notch product goes straight to the bottom.

3) What I would change? I would change your customer success leader and hire a professional that will fix your broken service organization and not allow the customer experience I had to ever happen again.

Works fine with i7 9700K

Pros: My experience with this board has been positive. Big step up from my old X-58 board.
Running i7-9700K and DDR4 3200 memory (at 3200) without any stability issues.

Cons: USB ports seem noisier than my old MB.
Poor ASUS support on this particular board (see below)

Other Thoughts: Given this is not a board aimed at gamers (note lack of LED's) and its higher cost, I believe ASUS has simply not completed all the necessary testing to finalize their support information. When I bought the board there was no support at all on the ASUS website. Since, they have added a partial memory QVL (blank pages after DDR4 3000) and an incomplete supported CPU list. I'd find hard to believe that the board will support the i9 9900K but not the i7 9700K.

works great as a server board

Pros: works great on 9900k

Cons: only the Core-i9 9900k is supported, i9-9700k is not supported

Other Thoughts: buying a board is not as simple as saying its a z390 and everything regarding a z390 should work.

Please see https://www.asus.com/us/Commercial-Servers-Workstations/WS-Z390-PRO/HelpDesk_CPU/

only the Core-i9 9900k is supported, 9700k is not supported

Does not support 9th gen processors.

Pros: It's a nice looking board, and if worked as advertised I would rate it more than one egg.

Cons: This motherboard should not have been released without BIOS updates, for 9th gen processors, and DDR4 memory over 3000MHz. Asus support was vary helpful explaining the board does not support the i7-9700K and 4000MHz memory I bought. I installed 8th gen i7-8700K chip and got board to post and run somewhat but could not run memory over 3000MHz stable,.. there are too many issues and glitches to list,.. I spent three days with i7-8700K running 2666MHz memory trying to get motherboard stable, thinking Asus would release new BIOS for 9th gen chips and all other needed updates to run stable, but after talking to support there is no BIOS updates anytime soon coming,.. so basically this thing is a $400 dollar joke.
