The Power of One.
The Barracuda® hard drive gives you one hard drive platform for every desktop storage application. One drive with trusted performance, reliability, simplicity and capacity.
Pros: Good storage and reliability for the money. Been running for 6 years with no issues related to functionality.
Cons: When it comes out of low power mode, it makes a rather loud "click" sound. Doesn't seem to affect the drive, but it's a little concerning when I can hear it kick in from another room.
Pros: As the drive is dying, it gets slower and slower. Based on how long it's taking for the data to get out, I'm guessing that there is a lot of corruption. Yes, the drive is dying, but at least I haven't lost much data!
Cons:
- It's less than a year old and dying - to the point it is unusable.
- It takes about one HOUR to transfer 1GB of data off the drive at this point.
Other Thoughts: I tend to put my most important data on my newest hardware, thinking that the newer hardware is safer than the older. However, with SeaGate, this has not proven to be the case.
Pros: 7200 rpm, quick for a mechanical drive ( fastest one I've owned anyway ). Transfer speeds ranged from 20MB/s to 120MB/s depending on what was being copied.
Cons: After googling the average lifespan of a mechanical hard drive, I find it to be 25,000 operational hours or 3-5 years. I really find this disappointing, nonetheless, it lasted from Nov 2012 to Mar 2018.
Other Thoughts: I bought my brother the same drive, at the same time and his only lasted 2.5 years, so I guess I'm lucky, still wish it would have lasted another 3-4 years.
Pros: This drive worked great for two years and two months. I used this drive for light gaming and just basic home computer use. I did not abuse this drive.
Cons: Then it quit working, locking the bios up upon startup. I tried it in two different computers with different sata cables and the drive did the same thing. This happened 2 years and 2 months from the date of purchase. I contacted Seagate to see if they would warranty the drive but they would not, they would however offer to help me fix the drive through technical support...but after going through loosing all my data im not going to chance that happening again with a failing drive.
Other Thoughts:
This would be a great drive to give to your worst enemy.... as it will suddenly just fail one day and they would loose all their precious data.
I can not recommend this product
Pros: There's a lot of space and works well at the beginning. Fairly inexpensive
Cons: I've already replaced the 2 drives I bought. The drives worked well the first month and then performance got worse. After just a year one drive went bad and then the other.
Other Thoughts: We've had a few Seagate drives and they seem to have a limited lifespan. I use them mainly in the NAS device because they're cheap. The average lifespan of these drives is between 2 and 2.5 years. I have another NAS device which gets used more with a competitor's drives and the drives are over 4 years old with no problems.
Pros:
- Large storage
- No breakdowns
Cons:
- Bottlenecks system as boot drive
- Slow when large amounts of disk writes are performed, e.g. unzipping large files.
Other Thoughts: - Recommended as a mass storage area. Use an SSD as boot drive.
Pros: I’m seeing a lot of the same thing here in the review section, pretty fast, but very limited lifespan. A shame because mine just hit 12k hours of operation aka 503 days with plenty of write and read operations under its belt and it’s as fast as ever. Sometimes you can hear it when you’re loading up a large game or something but other than that SMART is perfect and it’s a great reliable drive for me at least. Before you buy this, take into account your luck. It’s the most important factor here.
Cons: .

Pros: Cheap
Cons: I'v bought about 10 of these; have of them have died within the first year. Seagate will not warranty OEM drives.
