First time building a rig.

just saw that myself :slightly_smiling_face:. I think that 8% is skewed hi buy a percent or two because for some reason, Boulder gates 3 runs at a whopping 20% faster. The only game to do that for some reason.

@Doug Would it still be best to stick with the older gen even if I do now plan to get a 5080? I see reviews that seem to be geared more towards the older model, I am after work slowly trying to redo the build idea then I’ll post it here once I think it’s maybe a better choice combo of items. Per the help I got on this posts.

@Viraco Thank you! I did watch a few of them yesterday prior to bed. Didn’t know I was able to just use a USB to load up my current pcs Windows 11 into my new system. That’s a good save! Saw how the first boot etc goes too, and how to enable and check certain things in the scary bios. The place I feared since I was 17 rofl, after messing up a old pc from the bios menue.

You can go with either a 7800X3D or 9800X3D, you can’t really go wrong either way. The 7800X3D will run considerably cooler and take way less power to run. In most gaming benchmarks the 9800X3D is the fastest thing in the world, followed closely behind by the 7800X3D. Everything else is slower. I recently sold a system with a Ryzen 7 7700X and an RTX 5080, and it was running perfectly fine for Monster Hunter Wilds, there wasn’t a bottleneck or anything like that. So hopefully that answers your question.

@Doug It does thank you. Just a lot of mixed messages in reviews of both cards on newegg and other platforms, makes my brain spin haha. Thank you for your assistance thus far!

I personally own a 78003dx and it is phenomenal. Doug is correct you cant go wrong with either. But you can save a little $$ with the 7800 over the 9800.

I recommend checking out this video from Hardware Unboxed on YouTube.

It shows how much faster your PC would be going from a Ryzen 5 7600X (obviously WAY below the 7800X3D in performance) and upgrading to a 9800X3D.

The takeaway from the video, not to spoil anything, if you’re going to use a 1440p monitor then there’s a tiny difference. If you’re going to use a 4K monitor there’s no difference at all. Like, going from a 7600X to a 9800X3D at 4K improves performance with an RTX 5080 by an average of just 4%. When I say the 9800X3D is faster than you need, I’m not saying that for fun. Literally: if you’re not buying an RTX 5090, then getting a 9800X3D is a waste. Unless the 9800X3D costs practically the same amount, there’s basically no reason to get it. A 7800X3D is going to be basically just as good. And with current market pricing it’s more than a $100 difference.

You’re a real good person for giving updated information. It’s rare people even admit what they know is different from what is actually out there!

You’re the best! We love data!

Well with much help from here on better part selections. My build is now officially complete. Will list pc specs in a bit. I want to thank everyone here that assisted me with the part selections! My first ever build is now done, running and no errors in sight! Yay.
