My first Pc Build! Be honest to help me learn.

Hello! This is my first pc build, I built it back at the end of 2023 and I am still using it to this day. I am mostly wondering about the actual hardware like the cpu, gpu, motherboard, storage, and the power supply. I probably didn’t pick out the best case but it was glass and I think was 70 dollars so let me know if that was a rip off I feel like I could’ve gotten a higher quality one for not much more. My power supply also worries me I’m not sure if I made it powerful enough or if its a cheap one. Other than that I’ve never had any issues with anything, applications and browsing run great. Every game runs great even if it’s triple AAA and the graphics are intense, it can handle medium at 1080p at least fine. Keep in mind these prices are not accurate at all, I paid in total with some accessories around 1300 dollars maybe 14-1500 not 2000.

welcome to the community!

For a first build, I think you did pretty well!

If I were rating it based on the parts available at the time, I’d give it about an 8.5/10 for a 2023 build. The i5-12600KF was one of the best-value gaming CPUs around, the B660 motherboard was a sensible choice, and the 750W Gold PSU is more than adequate for the hardware. Nothing here stands out as a major mistake or poor decision.

Looking at it from a 2026 perspective, I’d put it closer to a 7.5/10, mostly because technology has moved on. The biggest thing holding the system back today is probably the 16GB of RAM . The CPU is still capable, the motherboard is fine, and the RX 9070 is actually a very strong GPU upgrade for the platform.(i’m a team red guy for a few years nowanyways so I’m a little biased)

The case may not be premium, but if temperatures are good and you’ve had no reliability issues, it clearly did its job. A lot of first-time builders overspend on flashy parts and cheap out on important components. You mostly avoided those mistakes and ended up with a balanced system that has remained useful for several years.

If I were changing anything today, I’d upgrade to 32GB of RAM before worrying about the CPU, motherboard, or power supply. At today’s prices though I’d probably hold off as long as you can unless you can find a killer deal.

You should post some pics of your set up!

This is a relief to hear thank you! I actually got the GPU wrong somehow, I made a last minute decision I think to save money, I got a ASRock Challenger Arc A770 16GB GDDR6, I was really straying away from NVIDIA, at the time I feel like nothing on YouTube or anything was saying anything nice about them. Let me know if this makes any difference- and if I should've stuck with the Radeon!

I wasn't sure if 32Gb of memory would do anything and I'm really regretting it now as at the time it would've costed nothing for the upgrade :joy: So far personally the only thing I've ever noticed is I can't crank up graphics too high I always stick to a custom medium with shadows low and textures on medium and usually lighting and everything runs good usually, I'm not sure if the ram would've helped that. I guess I'm not 100% percent sure what RAM actually helps with or does besides its sort of short term memory and helps run everything but I'm glad I got the minimum.

Good to hear about my cpu I really didn’t want to overspend and end up with a crappy gpu, same as my case I agree I really tried to avoid any pitfalls and too many flashing lights but I couldn’t fully help myself haha, the case has three fans up front and a fan in back and the fan I bought in center seems to do just fine, I have seen some corsair cases now look sick and some have separate chambers and everything for airflow.

I agree with the prices :joy: I would have to wait a while to see what comes out and for prices to drop, and the only plan I've come up with for then would be to get a mid range gpu, and upgrade to 32gb of ram (or 64?). I'm not sure if anything would need to be upgraded, if I just wanted some better graphics in the future, like my cpu or my power unit or even the motherboard. Let me know! I'll post some pics soon and some of my peripherals those are a lot easier to upgrade :star_struck:
