Starting today, consumers in the United States who purchase a new HTC One, HTC One Max, or HTC One Mini will be automatically enrolled in HTC’s Customer Advantage program. This new initiative will provide many great features for free that often requires a carrier’s insurance plan or a third-party service. HTC is the first smartphone manufacturer to offer a protection plan like this without any strings attached and it’s setting the company apart from the competition in many ways.

HTC Advantage members will enjoy one free cracked screen replacement to their devices if they break the screen within the first six months. This benefit will allow owners to use their phones as they were designed – without a clunky case or screen protector – and not worry about costly cosmetic damage. Granted, the benefit is only valid for the first six months of ownership but in today’s rapidly evolving tech-world, many consumers are starting to trade in their phones well before their contract expires.

HTC is also committed to alleviating a major headache for Android users: waiting for that elusive update.  Under the Advantage program, HTC owners will be able to receive the latest version of the Android operating system for two years from the launch of the HTC device. This may not rival Google’s Nexus program which consistently has the latest version of the OS, but it’s a lot better than other manufacturers that are notorious for not providing a clear timetable for their Android updates.

Depending on which HTC device you own, users will have either 25GB or 50GB of free additional Google Drive storage for two years. Photos, videos, music and more can all be easily stored on Google Drive and be accessed from any device with an internet connection. The need for a high-storage capacity phone won’t be necessary since most of your data will be stored in the cloud. And as long as you regularly backup your phone, you’ll never have to worry about losing any of your files.

Unfortunately, existing HTC-owners and non-U.S. residents are not eligible to enroll in the Advantage program. The good news is that HTC has realized that the money spent to buy these premium devices needs to go further to ensure the phones (and customers) are taken care of. It’s great to see a major company like HTC take notice of consumer needs and hopefully this will pave the way for other manufacturers to follow suit.
