Question 1

will this fit a 12 yr old computer?

If it's in a desktop, than sure it will, but you won't get the full 6Gb/s data transfer...I would also check to see if you have sata connectors on the motherboard, it could be that the data transfer would be too fast and you need to set jumper connectors on the HDD to make it go at the same speed as the desktop. Just make sure you have the manual from the WD site and you should be fine.

Question 2

Is this a new drive that is offered?  The picture has a date in 2011.

I can't say what New Egg has in stock.  The drive has been around for a number of years though.  They could be old stock items or new.  My last purchase of these drives was in 2013 and they came new at that time with a recent mfg date, from what I remember.

Question 3

Would this drive fit into any of the standard 3.5 cageless drive bays that are accessed by lever in front of the pc, can be key locked types?  Question really would be on the height of the drive, since the 3.5" width is standard.

I checked it against the standard drives I have and it's almost the exact same height.  The picture is a bit misleading- the dimensions are the same as a standard 3.5 drive.

Question 4

I would like to know if you can operate this velociraptor (or any other velociraptor) from a docking station like the termaltake BlacX?

Can not speak to the Thermaltake Black X specifically but I would suspect it will fit. If you look at the pictures of the hard drive you will see that the drive mounted on the frame is smaller than most other drive of this type. However the overall size is not.

Also look at the data and power connections in one of the other pictures and you will see they are laid out the same as other hard drives of this type.

If memory serves me right that was not always the case but at least the latest generation has changed this potential compatibility issue.
