how long is the warranty offered on these drives, as they are refurbished and by who?

I'm not sure it either 90 days or 6 months. The way you can truly find out is go to WD's website and key in the serial number. It should tell you the warranty date.

I've seen cases where the 90 day warranty is not honored; instead, it is summarily knocked down to 30 days. How often and why does this happen? Question 2: who does the refurbishing?
