Terrible question, need to know specific laptop model. However this drive will fit most if not all of laptops from that year considering that very few "require" Slim drives. This drive you are looking at is is 9.5 Millimeters thick (Measure you old one if you are not sure) . The Slims are usually 7 ~or 5 Millimeters thick used in laptops with Slim profiles that use SSDs or thin Seagates drives. So it is very unlikely you need something  thinner than this.

How would I know exactly how to choose a hard drive for a mac book pro 2.5 inch as far as the RPM AND STUFF?

I didn't buy this hard drive for my MacBook Pro, but I did upgrade the hard drive in my macbook some years ago with a similar hard drive.  If you go to ifixit, you can drill down to see products for your model macbook.  Sure, you can buy it from there, but I've found that the parts are often a bit cheaper here.

Buying a hard drive for a mac is a lot like buying a hard drive for pretty much any computer -- the drive speed and cache size doesn't matter much in terms of comparability (though they do affect the performance of the drive).  Just make sure the connection type is right, and it fits in the space properly.  I believe most modern macbooks have SATA 6.0GB/s connector (so a 3.0 Gb/s hard drive will work), and a standard 2.5" laptop drive will fit the space.

Is this a good replacement hard drive? I have a 17" Acer Aspire model 8920 and would like to know if this hard drive will fit my laptop.

Hi Ronald,
  Yes it should.  Western Digital is a very good hard drive.  The Black line is very nice.  The more Cache the better, but it is difficult and more expensive to find 32Mb or 64Mb 2.5 Drives.
  This is surely an upgrade from your original drive.  Most like you're original is a Seagate with only 8Mb of cache.  I didn't take the time to look it up but that's the usual expectation.

Ultimately, replacing your hard drive with a new one (whether it be an SSD or traditional hard drive) is usually best done by reinstalling Windows from scratch on the new drive.  Helena mentioned doing a full backup from the old drive and a full restore onto the new SSD, but I often find the best results are obtained by only backing up your personal files to some external device (usb hard drive, thumbdrive, etc), and doing a fresh Windows install on the new SSD.

Additionally, you will not need to install special drivers for an SSD.  It plugs into a normal SATA connector just like a traditional hard drive, and your operating system will see it as a normal SATA drive.  No special drivers needed.  SSDs often come with special software you can install that allows you to tune the drive in certain ways, but that software is by no means required.

Yes I just checked the specs on your laptop it is a normal 15.6 " laptop comes with a hard drive that is 7200 rpm which is unusual normally the companies use 5400 rpm drives to save battery life. But to answer your question YES!! it will fit and run in your laptop.

I have a compac presario cq62 and need a new hard drive.  I think this one will fit & work in my laptop, but I need to know if this hard drive comes with the connecting plug line that connects it to the computer?  This model has a small plug area requiring a 2 inch long connecting cable & harness that plugs into the hard drive.

Sorry, I don't remember if it came with any cables/plugs. I do many repairs and can't remember that specifically. Most Laptops, you can re-use the existing cables/connections. If you're setting it up with a dual Hard Drive (1 for the OS and the other for Data) they you would need another one.
