Is this drive noisy at all?

Compared to older Raptor drives, it's not as noisy. But, a high RPM drive is always more apt to make noise. The disk spinning doesn't make any unusual noise, but the arm does (when working with a lot of fragmented data). It makes a noise that kinda sounds like a water faucet in the other room and is a bit louder than the fans. If your computer is in your bedroom near your bed, and you like peace and quiet, this may get annoying. Otherwise, for office use, it's not THAT bad of a noise.

Does anyone know if this comes with a sata cable?

Mine did not come with any cables. It's also pretty loud if you care about that. I don't but some people do. Also, it doesn't seem as fast as it should be. Boot speed is faster than my 7200 but other than that it's about the same running 64x windows 8.

Will this HD require any additional parts to replace an existing SATA HD in a desk top?

No.  It will fit in a standard 3 1/2" drive slot. One note though, this drive uses the WD Advanced Format.  If you are installing a raided system and try to install Win 7 WITHOUT SP-1, you will encounter problems with the raid setup.  No problem with Win 7 WITH SP-1 or later.  I really like my VelociRaptor(s)  running a raid 1.

Will this hard drive work with Windows 10 pro?

Yes, hard drives are independent of drivers so they will work with Any OS. You only need to worry about controllers for OS compatibility.

Question 5

Would this be a good drive to use as my boot and storage drive for all my games, music, and 3D work?

I just run my os on mine.  A secondary Drive handles my programs, and a third drive holds my data.  Running music and 3d work and os from one drive will have a slower response time.

Question 6

Can the HDD be removed from the water cooled jacket in order to clone another 500GB HDD to it?
What is the exact GB on this unit so I will know if I can clone my current 500GB unit to it?  My current Seagate 500GD unit is actually 496.89GB.  To clone or duplicate, the new unit must be larger than the unit to be clone.

What "water cooled" jacket are you referring to? This is an air cooled drive, the black part you see is a heat sink. You can take the heat sink off, however it really wouldn't be a sensible thing to do if you are trying to mount the drive in a 3.5" bay, as the whole point behind the heat sink design was to fit into a stock bay size and keep the drive cool at the same time. Taking the heat sink off does leave you with a 2.5" drive, but the drive height does not conform to the usual height of notebook drives.

If you are worried about your Seagate drive not fitting when using cloning software, just clean out the garbage, defrag thoroughly and then and only then shrink the partition size of the main OS. You won't have a problem.

Question 7

My hard drive has failed and I not only need to replace it but I want to upgrade as well. My current hard drive is a Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 750 gb SATA hard drive. Will this drive be compatible?

It will, yes, but unless you need a 10,000 RPM drive, you might want to go with something more like this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA2W00ZD1577 $60 less, twice the space, still plenty fast. But if space &/or money aren't a concern for you, you'll be fine with either one.

Question 8

I want to put this in a Dell Inspiron 530 to replace the Samsung HD 501 LJ ATA hard disk drive that is in it. Is this possible?

Yes your Drive should work, they are both the same interface and connection Speeds. One thing to keep in mind, this drive can run hotter than other drives, not more than usual, it is rated for that (I never had a problem), so make sure you have an open space for proper Computer ventilation. If you are looking for speed more than storage I would look at SSDs (Solid State Drives). Also there is a new technology Called SSHD? (Solid State Hybrid Drive by Seagate) which combines the two technologies and utilizes them efficiently. Question 9

This says it is a bare drive but the images do not seem to show if you can actually see the internals of the drive like the other bare hdd's. Is this particular drive the kind that have the acrylic window?

This hard drive does not have the acrylic window. I have two of these drives in my machine. I believe the one that has an acrylic window was a 250gb hard drive. I hope this helps you.

How many watt power supply is needed for this hard drive?

The drives use 4 watts at idle and 5.5 watts during writes. Pretty low power consumption in comparison to even standard 5600 rpm drives. There are good sites you can view for power consumption comparisons.

You will want to replace the drives after three years of use. I have been able to go as long as 5 years but they do fail between three and five years.
