Nice simple switch. Plug and play. Couldnt be easier.
The TP-LINK TL-SG105 is a fantastic little unit. My previous experience with Gigabit switches comes in the way of two 8-port Linksys units however, when given the opportunity to try something new, I couldn't resist. I greatly enjoy the performance of this little unit. I decided that to best test the unit, I should employ it within my office environment. Being a developer who also does a lot of SQL Server management, the ability to quickly move large files quickly is very important. I have thrown tons of data through this unit over the past week or so and it has not glitched once. Transfer speeds are lightning quick and right up there where one would expect them to be for a Gigabit switch. The size of the unit contributes greatly to my appreciation of it. The thing is tiny --even smaller than comparable units from other manufacturers. Not only is the unit a small form factor which can easily be tucked away mounted to the underside of a desk, it is also in a metal case as opposed to plastic. As such, the case acts as a heatsink --dissipating heat in such an efficient manner that even after a few hours of hammering multi-GB database backups back and forth between servers, the thing is barely even warm. The fact that it is unmanaged simplifies the unit quite a bit. This is great since you simply plug it into your network and add devices. There is no configuration necessary, quite literally plug and play. I had the unit set up in < 2 minutes.
It connects super easily just plug and play
I have a home media center PC, a printer, and four desktop computers that I connect to a Dual band N-Router TRENDnet TEW-671BR and cable modem via CAT6 cables. I stream my movies (HD movies) and multicast them to my laptop, so a good gigabit switch that supports IGMP snooping is important. I did notice a huge improvement in streaming content noticeably compared to my wifi. I hosted a LAN party at my home this past weekend and the gigabit connection to the media center PC, which became the game server, was much faster and absolutely no lag noticed with my hardline network. Here are the results of two simple ping tests with my wireless hardware and then this TL-SG105 with my CAT6 cable connections: OS: Windows 7 Pro 64 bit (V 6.1.7601) Wireless Router: Dual band N-Router TRENDnet TEW-671BR Firmware Version: B1.1R. Firmware Version: 4.00 Build 0034, 14 May, 2007 Wiress Card: TP-LINK TL-WDN4800 Driver: TL-WDN4800 V1 TEST #1 (Ping Test results with wireless hardware) Reply from 216.52.208.185: bytes = 32 time<5ms TTL=128 TL-SG105 Motherboard Ethernet Card: Realtek RTL8111C - 10/100/1000 Controller TEST #2 (Ping Test results with TL-SG105 and hardline hardware) Reply from 216.52.208.185: bytes = 32 time<1ms TTL=128 As you can see the communication delay is much less with the hardline connection using this switch!
* Nice compact form factor * Included power adapter option is nice * Even nicer is being able to power it off PoE - one less wire/plug socket to deal with * Integrates well with the UniFi Network app, showing what devices are connected to it

Fast performance and PoE+/++ out of the box! Small footprint and overall a performance beast for my network
Simple to use and small so it's easy to hide.
The switch has a very heavy and quality feel to it. POE+ works great with my cameras, and wireless access points.
UniFi compatible and suited to the kinds of awful environmental conditions the old Ubiquiti Tough Switch Pro was perfect for. Being managed by UniFi rather than UISP simplifies the network, so it's GREAT to have this niche filled. Surprisingly useful to have more ports, didn't know we needed them until we had the option.
Works as advertised and had no issues with autonegotiating speeds on interfaces with Google Fiber's provided equipment (an issue I had read about in reviews for other boxes which I was concerned about). Get full speed.

No problems whatsoever. That being said, a wired gigabit ethernet switch is probably the most simple form of network connection around and I don't think any company could screw it up (well, maybe D-Link could).
