Easy setup, 8 multiple ports versus 5.
$20 buck and your router gains 4 more ports
I work in information technology, and sometimes configure larger managed switches. When I read the specifications for this switch and then the price, I don't think I've ever impulse bought a network device faster, and I don't regret it. It does everything it says it does in the manual, is inexpensive, fanless, and has a great, sturdy iron case with notches for wall mounting using the included screws and wall anchors. Apart from the very solid build quality an iron case imparts, the extra weight is incredibly helpful to keep the device firmly planted where you put it when you have Ethernet cables hanging from all of the ports.
The switch looks and feel well built. It has a metal case that helps with the heat dissipation. The led colors indicating the speed base of clients connected (100/1000Mbps) is a nice feature, specially when you have all sorts of clients connected. The switch doesn't need any kind of setup. Performs well, stable, the flow control feature help mitigate between slower devices(loss-less transmissions between clients). I have test it in all kind of scenarios and it didn't let me down. My surprise was when the scheduled backup started and after 1 minute finished. The switch actually can handle an average of 100MB/s which is pretty impressive for a single active transfer test. Overall the switch can handle home and office traffic pretty easy. It comes with 8 ports which was enough for me and if needed you can always stack them without any problems ... or cross wire needed.
No software set up required, cheap, easy fix for more ethernet ports. Sometimes wireless just doesn't cut it.
Small, inexpensive, simple setup
* Nice compact form factor * Included power adapter option is nice * Even nicer is being able to power it off PoE - one less wire/plug socket to deal with * Integrates well with the UniFi Network app, showing what devices are connected to it
compact, easy set setup, no configuration needed, solid equipment
UniFi compatible and suited to the kinds of awful environmental conditions the old Ubiquiti Tough Switch Pro was perfect for. Being managed by UniFi rather than UISP simplifies the network, so it's GREAT to have this niche filled. Surprisingly useful to have more ports, didn't know we needed them until we had the option.
Small frame allows easy placement
-Whisper quite -Many Features -Web GUI or phone app to manage it -You have to know what your doing or at least read the manual.
Fast, well constructed, easy to use, just like any other quality switch I have owned (I have at least 6 1G ones in my house). Hopefully the power plug holds up, that's really the only weak point on the 1G switches.
Quality build - in a full metal case the build quality is excellent. Size - at just over 11 inches long and a height of just under 1 inch it can be mounted underneath or on the back of your computer desk. No wasted space - the case is only slightly larger than the area for ports. Easy to mount - a couple of screws to mount it
Works as advertised and had no issues with autonegotiating speeds on interfaces with Google Fiber's provided equipment (an issue I had read about in reviews for other boxes which I was concerned about). Get full speed.
I have had both this DGS-1016G and a DGS-2208 in my small office. The 1016G is by far the faster of the 2. The 2208 does not transfer nearly as fast.
