It used to be that when I would build a new computer I'd buy a DVD burner as part of the base system. But lately other than the initial software install I find my familyrarely uses the DVD drive for anything. We're using MP3 files on an iPod. And occasionally a USB stick to copy files or install software. There are occasions in which a DVD drive is still needed and being able to move this drive from one computer to another (connecting via USB) gives me a lot of flexibility for a little amount of money.
