This unit is a great idea and works fine too. I wanted a way to take an internal 3TB hard disk drive that is used for backups offline and then bring it back online externally as needed. The front panel power switch allows just that. I power it on when I need to take backups and afterward switch it off. I believe this procedure allows some measure of protection from disk destroying malware wrt backup files. It allows other uses not anticipated now that I have it.

SATA or SAS, The fan has an off switch. The cage itself is all metal, with a solid/heavy feel. Have not noticed any slow down in speed from the drives at all.
