I had two old laptops that had died and were beyond recovery/restoration. They had served their purpose, however I did want the data off of the hard drives. This USB cable plugs directly into the sata interface on the 2.5" drives and uses the USB to power them up. I was able not only to recover all of my data, I formatted them and am using them as back-up storage. Small price to pay for such a large gain!
