Audiophile here so listen up!
Sound is far clearer and crisper than your average 50-75USD headset. Excellent reproduction of all 20hz-20khz frequencies after some mild EQ tuning. Also capable of virtual surround sound decoding !IF! <= Pay attention => !IF! you have a decent audio source that does virtual surround sound well.
Don't need to worry about weird or glitchy USB headset drivers.
Mic is also extremely crisp, with a perfect sensitivity threshold. Catches the majority of vocal frequencies whether you have a bassy voice or a squeeky voice. Again, IF you have a good audio chip to catch them.
Mic does not mute when retracted, so it can stay out of the way with minor loss to voice pickup.
Very lightweight, with a simple yet durable headband design.
Stereo, but you know that before buying. Nor should you expect surround at this price bracket.
The ear pieces do not tilt at all, so they may not position correctly for all head-types.
The padding is comfortable, but not felt. So it will feel sticky and warm after a while. Another thing you should already know, nor expect anything more at this price bracket.
Needs decent audio source to be the best it can be, but that's why it's so cheap. So you can get a decent soundcard to go with it.
The left ear piece length-adjustment clip isn't as stiff as the right. Hence why a lot of reviewers are saying it falls down. It doesn't really, it's just loose enough that it'll slip out of place on it own. Still slides back into place just as easy, and as light as it is, you don't even need the headband resting on your head.
Now, I've recently given up on the Arctic Sound P531.
Not because it wasn't excellent sound, quite the contrary it's fantastic sound. No, I gave up on it because even with the adjustments I've made, it's semi-aural or 'on-ear' design continues to cause soreness where my glasses go over my ears. (See reviews by ATI IS KING!!! and XionEternum on the P531). So, since Arctic Sound has impressed me with their quality audio reproduction at the low-end price bracket (which many of us are shopping these days) I've decided to give the P301 a try knowing they were Stereo and 'Over-Ear' and needed a decent soundcard to make them 'sing'. The ASUS Xonar DG PCI soundcard with the P301 are actually another tier better in sound quality, and two tiers better in mic quality. All while retaining the positional clarity of the P531, yet on a Stereo headset. My impressions of virtual surround have been somewhat raised. I shall repost with an updated review after some time to experience these two together. (C&P on ASUS Xonar DG PCI)
Very nice headset, good audio quality and very comfortable to wear
Microphone died after about 2 years
Would have been 5 eggs if it didn't break down when it did
