ASUS did it again! I am extremely happy with my purchase of this board! This is my second ASUS board and both have been most excellent. The 140-Watt CPU support is what I needed for my new AMD Phenom 9850 BE (125 Watt). The overclocking ability is what ASUS boards are known for (ROCKS!). However, I have only slightly used the overclocking features, with fantastic results. The BIOS is well designed and easy to use. The User's Manual included in the box is extremely well written--I like that! The placement of all the I/O connectors are well placed and engineered in my opinion. I like the SATA ports mounted on the side as they leave more clearance for other componenets. These really are not difficult at all to hook up SATA drives in any way for me. Windows Vista Ultimate 32-bit version detected most of the devices and the included software bundle installed wonderfully. I like the Express Gate features but still have yet to configure the e-mail funtion. Ingenios!
Not really any. None for me. I read other users complain of the CD-In port too far away form the drives bay. Easy fix... just move your drives down lower in the case, or buy a longer cable. Otherwise.... the CD In port is only needed for the older CD and DVD optical drives that utilize the older IDE 40-wire ribbon cables. The newer IDE optical compponents like DL-DVD and Blu-Ray can use the Ultra IDE 80-wire ribbon cable (included in the box), or SATA cables which both of these transmit audio signals via the cables so the the CD-In cable isn't needed. This is only needed for use on older optical drives that use the older 40-wire IDE ribbon cables. I have no issues with the PSU power connectors placement either. This board is well laid out and well engineered for my use.
The Hybrid SLI works great with my set up... EVGA (older) Nvidia 7600GS SLI cards (two matched). Once I install the included SLI driveres included on the disk, Vista detects the video SLI cards and installs the SLI easily! Will be upgrading my video SLI slots to the newer 9000 series with the PCI-e 2.0 soon as this board is engineeerd for this.
My current set-up: AMD Phenom Quad 9850 BE; This FANTASTIC ASUS M3N72-D MoBo; Antec Earthwatts 650-Watt PSU; 2 x 1 GB PC 8500 Ballistix Crucial memory (2GB total-- and adding more soon); Zalman CNPS 9700 LED CPU cooler; 3 x 320 GB Seagate SATA II HDD; 1 x 320 GB Seagate PATA HDD; a Pioneer 20x DL-DVD SATA Optical Drive; and another Pioneer 20x PATA/IDE DL-DVD optical drive; 2 x EVGA 7600 GS SLI 256MB video cards; 2 x Silenex 80 MM rear case fans; Altec Lansing 2.1 80- watt speaker system; 19" Wide screen LCD monitor; a huge older model Antec case (just huge- about 5 years old now and still gorgeous). This system ROCKS!!!!
