My old NZXT Lexa case finally started coming apart, and I had decided that I didn't need a flashy case, just a solid, functional one. This fit the bill, and is a pleasant matte white inside and out. No silly doors to get in the way of the disc drives, no 3.5" opening that would go unused anyway. This is a no-frills case that does more than it needs to. There's room to hide cables behind the mobo tray, it comes with several black screws to mount your equipment with (which looks great if you leave the side panel off, see "cons" below).
I have a GTX560 that fits happily in here, with a good 3 inches to spare. It's listed as a "beginner" case, but it will house everything except the overkill-enthusiast's equipment (3+ vid cards). The design is definitely their most subdued, with no logos, branding or symbols anywhere.
Being a low-budget case, the only catch I found to my machine is that there isn't a fan on the side. The CPU fan ramps up to insane volume (using the stock fan, I know, shame on me) if the side panel is on. The bright white interior plus the ability to hide 90% of the wiring made the solution painless: I leave the side panel open. I don't have children or shedding pets, nor is it in any LIKELY danger of getting liquid on it, so this solution works for me.
The front bezel of the case isn't squared off, which isn't all that noticeable in the pictures. I initially thought it had popped loose on one side during shipping until I stepped back and looked at it, to realize the entire front is set at just SLIGHTLY odd angles (intentionally).
Also, the front panel USB ports are upside down, for absolutely no reason whatsoever. Luckily, I was able to overcome this crippling obstacle by rotating my thumb drive 180 degrees. Maybe NZXT felt they had to do SOMETHING wrong, or you'd never need to buy another case again.
• Sleek, minimalist look.
• Affordable but not too cheap in construction and features.
• Paint job is well done, fairly resistant to marring and scratches.
• Decent amount of fan mounts.
• Still selling stock with USB 2.0 front ports.
• Lack of SSD mounts on the back motherboard tray like other cases.
• Panels are easily warped or dinged.
• Sound resonates a bit too much in this case.
• No built-in fan filters.
This is an aging economy case built for a different time in PC builds. It still holds up, and the Source 220 addresses some issue this case has but, to me, it'd be better if NZXT just properly updated this case altogether instead of making a lazy revision for a slight premium.
If this case goes on sale it could very well get you by if you're on a strict budget. It has some basic quality of life features and it is smart looking. However, it is now showing its age and other cheap cases have started to outshine this former champion of value.
