First and foremost, the re-certification team did a great job with mine. There was nothing that would indicate that this laptop was not new except the piece of paper in the shipping box that said everything passed the re-certification checks.
- Dedicated number pad - Very nice processor (especially for the price) - Solid feel (it doesn't feel cheap like it will snap in half) - Does not get absurdly hot/good with power/reasonably long battery life - Contains WiMax AND WiFi adapters (it does contain both) - Integrated graphics is very decent as far as integrated graphics go - The AC adapter has a long cord and the computer end is a 90 degree angle - The screen is glossy without creating the aggravating reflection - The touchpad is grooved, which makes using it feel more natural - The LED indicators are not absurdly bright - ASUS's website makes the finding of drivers easy
This laptop makes a great portable workstation. It runs the wPrime 32M benchmark in 23.7 seconds.
I'll preface my list of cons with the fact that none of these cons actually turn me off of this laptop. Instead, they are just suggestions for the next line:
- The keyboard is a little crowded, though with enough practice, it will feel natural - Personally, I'm not a fan of the chiclet keyboard - The screen brightness monitor will occasionally get confused for a short time about whether the laptop is on AC power or not - The CD tray feels unsupported when it is ejected, but I don't think there is any way around this - The backup CD (which you have to burn) contains a "mass produced" image which is strange to reinstate. See other thoughts for a fix. - Does not come with a Windows CD, which makes installing a clean copy of windows more difficult - Strange way of formatting the HDD, but this can be undone with either a fresh install of Windows or the backup image once burned
Out of the box with drivers, this laptop scores the following on the Windows Experience Index: CPU: 6.7 RAM: 5.9 GPU: 4.5 Gaming GPU: 5.2 HDD: 5.9
If you need to use the recovery image, use the steps below to get it back up and running (after reinstalling the image): - Right click on Computer and go to properties - Scroll down and click "Change Product Key" - Enter the Serial Key from the sticker on the bottom of the laptop (this will activate) - Run ASUS E-Driver to update all the drivers
To get rid of the bloatware and get a clean copy of windows. Depending on how old the copy of Windows is, it may not include some of the drivers, so download them first: - Search the ASUS website for "K52F" - Download the drivers and burn to a CD (be careful with the camera one, there are many versions) - Obtain a copy of windows home premium or a windows all-in-one disc - Reinstall windows and enter the product key - Reinstall the drivers from the CD, along with any of the utilit
