16x16 / 8x8x8x8 at pci-e 3.0 best bang for the buck so far . where the asrock extreme9 and asus versions are supposed to cost over 400.
no leds on board like Asrock extreme9 or Asus
This motherboard should be very future proof since games these days and future games wont be cpu limited - We have yet to see the reviews when compared to Asrock and Asus but it should be right up there.
Beautiful board with just about every option a modern board can have.
I don't know why people don't like the green colors on the board since these parts will be mostly hidden when all the components are installed.
Besides that, I actually look mainly at my monitor instead of the computer itself so it could be sky-blue pink for all I care.
When it was running it was fast. Very fast. Most of the programs on the CD wouldn't load with a warning that no compatible device was recognized by the programs. I then downloaded and installed most of them from the website, but not all. Several were just like what were on the disk and remained unloadable.
It just plain died for no apparent reason. I checked everything and even swapped the mobo into a working computer to no avail. It would no longer POST, no lights came on, I replaced and reseated the battery and checked everything possible. Something inside this mobo just plain quit working. After almost 20 builds I've never seen the like.
When it was running it ran fast. Very fast. It also ran extremely hot. I was going to fully watercool everything and was gathering the parts when it up and died. I needed a working board so when I RMA'd it to the factory I went and bought another brand. It ran almost cold, compared to this Sniper 3. The replacement ran almost 30C cooler just on the cpu from idle to full load. There was something seriously wrong with the Sniper from day one, but I thought it was just the way it was supposed to run until, of course, it finally died. Anything over 4.4GHz on the cpu and the temp shot up over 90C and I had to lower it back down to (continued below)
4.2GHz for it to run cool enough. Even then, at full load, it often topped 85C which is ridiculous.
The turn around time for the RMA turned out to be only 2 weeks! Extraordinary for a brand new type of mobo.
I'll report back after I reinstall the board they sent me. The replacement I bought is running so very good I'm hesitating disassembling it to try out the Sniper RMA. I may just rebox it and sell it and just keep the replacement. It does everything I ask of it at a nice cool temp.
This was my 1st Gigabyte after over 10 years and a very bad board from them, then. I had hoped that they had become better but I don't think that they actually have.
I'm definitely gonna check out the board they sent me, because it may have been just a single bad board and I don't want to give up on Gigabyte if I don't have to.
I do wish that they would update their programs and get rid of any mention of using a floppy disk! This IS the 21st Century! USB drives rule, now.
I wish them well.
