As far as the Fan being loud............
Yes, the fans RPM's spin up during intensive Graphics applications but only for a seconded & it's no louder then my PC !!!!
But during normal use, it's quite as a mouse.........
What would you expect?
This is not a android or a internet browsing tool
This is a Full Blown i7 Computer in a box the size of 5 packs of cigarettes (laying side by side on edge)
Capable of running Graphic intensive software such as Photoshop and Movie Making software !!
If you need a quite toy then by an Android....
If you want a Powerful tool to run your programs buy this.....
Regards, Rick
There's a lot to like about this unit - it's amazing how much computer they've crammed into such a tiny chassis! It looks great and is packed with features. The power idle is impressively low and it's very quiet if it's not doing anything that stresses the CPU.
Unfortunately Gigabyte has a harder time keeping quality high on a whole system vs. a motherboard. Since day one I've had issues with a Segate external hard drive randomly being disconnected from the system. I thought it was the hard drive, so I spent weeks testing it, then looked at drivers on the BRIX, thinking it was a Windows 8.1 driver issue. I connected another drive, same issue. I moved the drives around to opposite rear ports. It kept happening.
Then I moved the drives to the front USB ports and guess what? Not a single disconnect in over a month. Switched back to the rear USB ports, it disconnects within a day. I'm not looking forward to the countless hours I'll waste with Gigabyte tech support trying to convince them it's a faulty USB connection on the rear ports.
I'm also glad I put this thing in my basement wiring closet and access it remotely. When the CPU is working hard, the fan is EXTREMELY loud. I could never have this in my office or home theatre room. They also do aggressive throttling on the CPU so you'll never see the max speed when multiple cores are firing.
