The best things about the mouse:<BR><BR>1.) Good shape and texture. I switched from a Razer Diamondback (a VERY good mouse) which I found to be a bit small. This mouse is more substantial, and has a more "grippy" texture. 2.) The on-the-fly sensitivity buttons. Fantastic. Go from precise distance aiming to whipping a tank turret around quickly with a quick press of the button. Also beneficial for making large cursor moves on your desktop and more fine movment for a program where you need better control such as photo editing in Photoshop.<BR>3.) Smooth operation on the mousepad with the teflon feet.
4.) Adjustable sensitivity for the on-the-fly setttings. Make each setting as fast or as slow as you want.
The worst things about the mouse: <BR><BR>1.) Lack of a forward button.<BR> 2.) Difficulty with keybinding in the software; It seems to want to switch (uncommanded) between the operating program (i.e. a game.exe) and "all programs", which causes your expected button functions to quit working in-game.<BR>3.) The weight package. Invented necessity just to charge you more $$. Unless you're Lance friggin Armstrong and need to have the perfect weight to climb virtual hills in BF2, don't buy it for this. You have a mouse that weighs XXX, you get used to it just like always.
4.) Just as mentioned by many others, the mouse button 3 is hard to press which may cause you to inadvertently hit the side-scroll buttons instead. Takes some care to operate it correctly.
Overall:
<Br> I've used various mice; most recently: The MS optical browser mouse (OK, but not accurate enough for gaming), the Razer Diamondback (fantastic mouse, buttery smooth gaming, but bad side-button design and location, built more for a clean looking design rather than function), and now the G5. The G5 is a fair to good mouse, not great... It needs a forward button and the software needs some tweaking to keep the correct button loadout (binding) working with the program that is operating. Very frustrating to have your game minimized in the middle of a firefight when the Logitech Setpoint software pops up asking you if you want to assign a function to the button you've pressed when you've assigned the key for the 10th friggin time and it won't stay bound despite your best efforts to "apply" and "OK" in various combinations to get the button-binding to take. <B>IMPORTANT:</B> Download the latest firmware to get the mouse to track properly. Otherwise it is very choppy.
Up to 2000 DPI on-the-fly adjustment, custom weight cartrige system, smooth gliding pads.
Limited binds for all the buttons.
Back button, but no forward button.
Middle wheel button is very fickle, sometimes scrolling up when you are trying to middle click. This is very problematic, particularly for a mouse touted for gamers.
Poor tracking on some surfaces.
Overall, it feels very cheaply made.
After 6 months, the right click suddenly stopped responding. Not what I would expect from a mouse in this price range.
DPI adjust was "iffy and bugged" in 3D apps after firmware upgrade. Decrease button increased DPI and increase button did not respond at all.
This would be a great mouse if a few issues were fixed. While the mouse itself does feel very cheaply made, that may be due to the fact that it is made for weight adjustment.
There is a firmware upgrade available from logitech that allows the mouse to track over a wider range of surfaces. However, I suggest that you test your mouse surface first before installing this firmware.
For the money, I would suggest an mx518 instead of this mouse.
